Taylor County IT Support Tech General Description:
Under the direct supervision of the IT Operations Manager, with general oversight by the IT Director, this position supports the day-to-day operations of the IT Department. Provides primary technical support to County staff, focusing on first-level troubleshooting, hardware deployments, and user assistance. Performs routine maintenance of County computers and other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Needed:
Knowledge of and ability to install, configure, and support Windows 11 operating systems, application software, and computer peripherals. Knowledge of computer hardware with the ability to diagnose routine issues and replace standard components. Basic understanding of Active Directory, Entra ID, and Exchange Online (password resets, standard user account creation, group additions). Basic understanding of network troubleshooting (checking physical connections, basic IP/DNS troubleshooting). Strong customer service and communication skills, specifically the ability to translate technical steps for non-technical users. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Typical Duties:
Serves as the first point of contact for help desk requests, providing support via phone, remote tools, or in person. Images, deploys, and physically installs desktop computers, laptops, printers, and other equipment. Troubleshoots hardware, software, and basic network connectivity issues. Creates and manages user accounts in Active Directory and Microsoft 365. Assists with setup and support of email accounts and related services. Travels to various County offices to provide onsite support as needed.
Additional Information:
Work is primarily performed indoors with occasional outdoor exposure. Travel within the county to various County offices is required. Occasional evening or weekend work hours may be required. Requires ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach. Requires ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications:
Graduation from High School or
GED. 1-2
years of professional IT support experience, or a combination of related technical education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and pass a criminal background check.
- This is not a remote position, you will work in the Abilene, Texas office daily
Starting Salary:
$54,000 annually + benefits Benefits include: 100% county-paid employee medical and dental insurance, paid life and disability insurance, retirement, and paid vacation/sick time.
