Position Purpose :
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Technology, the Software Support Specialist ensures the reliable operation, maintenance, and support of the district's critical software applications and database systems used by staff and students. This role emphasizes database management, software troubleshooting, and data integrity. Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Provide Tier 2 technical support and specialized troubleshooting for a variety of educational and administrative software applications.
- Work in a helpdesk environment which requires answering phones for support, checking emails, working helpdesk tickets, and assisting patron walk-ins. Occasional onsite support may be required with Executive Director or Assistant Director of technology approval.
- Manage, monitor, and maintain the integrity and security of key district databases, including student information systems and financial platforms.
- Execute low-level scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) to automate routine tasks, system processes, and user account management.
- Perform data analysis, reporting, and troubleshooting to resolve application issues, correct data errors, and fulfill data requests.
- Assist in the testing, deployment, and configuration of new software and system upgrades.
- Work collaboratively on assigned technology projects with minimal supervision, meeting deadlines and communicating progress effectively.
- Interact with software vendors and service providers to resolve complex issues and manage product licenses/subscriptions. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Database Experience:
Experience with database concepts, system administration, and maintaining data quality and integrity.
Scripting:
Demonstrated ability to create and modify low-level scripts (e.g., PowerShell, bash, Python) for system automation and maintenance tasks. Preferred but not required.
Software Troubleshooting:
Extensive experience diagnosing and resolving complex software issues, application errors, and system integration problems.
- Experience in administering core directory services, such as Microsoft Active Directory, Google Workspace for Education, and rostering applications.
- Familiarity with configuration management tools for software deployment (e.g.,Intune, JAMF) is a plus.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with a proven ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff and students.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented K-12 environment. Additional Duties

- Travel to school district locations is required to perform essential duties, provide on-site support, maintain systems, and training. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Works in standard office and school building environments. Occasional physical work may be required, including minor lifting, and other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Profile Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- Two to four years of verifiable work experience in a technical role with a focus on database administration, software support, or systems analysis.
- A four-year degree in an IT or Computer Science related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Industry-recognized certifications relevant to databases, software, or scripting preferred (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server certifications, CompTIA, etc.).
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License and the ability to provide own transportation between district sites.
- Good soft skills
