Job Description

The Network Specialist supports IT operations by maintaining reliable and secure network infrastructure across multiple sites in the U.S. and Mexico. This role is responsible for configuring and supporting firewalls, switches, access points, VPN, LAN/WAN connectivity, and structured cabling. The Network Specialist provides frontline technical support, monitors network performance, coordinates with vendors on infrastructure projects, and maintains documentation to ensure system availability, security, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Operations & Support Provide frontline technical support and guidance to end-users for network-related issues. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve network and system problems to minimize downtime. Monitor network performance, analyze trends, and make adjustments as needed to maintain stability. Replace defective network hardware components when necessary. Network Configuration & Infrastructure Configure and maintain network equipment including firewalls, L3/L2 switches, access points, VPN, and LAN/WAN connectivity (Extreme Networks environment). Create and manage VLANs, port channels, and switching/routing configurations. Support firewall configuration and policy management in accordance with security requirements. Support fiber and structured cabling standards and troubleshooting. Multi-Site Support (US & MX) Provide network support across multiple locations including U.S. and Mexico operations. Coordinate remote troubleshooting and on-site support as required. Support site readiness for network changes, deployments, and expansions. Project & Vendor Coordination Coordinate with IT vendors for new infrastructure projects and enhancements. Support planning and execution of information infrastructure projects and operating system platform needs related to networking. Create Purchase Requests (PRs) for network equipment and IT services payments, ensuring proper documentation and approvals. Assist with implementation, cutovers, and validation of new network infrastructure. Documentation & Security Create and maintain network documentation including configurations, SOPs, and incident reports. Support operational management of system availability and security through disciplined documentation and change tracking. Maintain good documentation practices to support audits, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
Education / Experience
Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Communications Engineering, or related field required. 3+ years of experience in IT operations required. Hands-on network configuration experience required (firewalls, switches, access points, LAN/WAN; Extreme Networks environment).
Knowledge / Skills
/ Abilities Strong knowledge of VLAN and port-channel creation/configuration. Understanding of switching and routing protocols. Working knowledge of firewall policies and security controls. Experience with fiber and structured cabling. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for connectivity issues. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to changing priorities. Strong documentation skills. Work Environment Office and manufacturing support environment. May require visits to network closets, equipment rooms, or production areas. Supports multiple sites; occasional travel may be required. Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, and work in equipment rooms and operational areas. Ability to lift and install network equipment as required. Ability to work in tight spaces (network closets, raised floors) as needed.
