Position Overview

The Field Support Specialist serves as the primary IT point of contact for assigned field locations, providing a blend of technical support, project coordination, and infrastructure support. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of IT systems, resolving technical issues, coordinating IT initiatives, and supporting infrastructure projects across multiple sites.

The ideal candidate will have strong desktop support experience, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Employment Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to work permanently in the United States.

High School Diploma or GED required.

TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) is required for facility access and must be obtained shortly after hire if not currently held.

Position is offered on a contract-to-hire basis.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary IT contact for assigned locations and take ownership of all local IT-related issues.

Provide advanced desktop support for hardware, software, operating systems, and peripherals.

Coordinate and communicate IT initiatives, upgrades, and projects impacting assigned field sites.

Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues through phone, email, and direct customer interaction.

Install, configure, and support Windows 10 and Windows 11 environments.

Maintain hardware inventory, asset tracking, and adherence to IT standards.

Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and procedures within the IT Knowledge Base.

Assist with hardware and software deployments, upgrades, and new technology implementations.

Support laptops, desktops, printers, mobile devices, and related peripherals.

Provide end-user training and technical guidance to improve technology adoption and usage.

Collaborate with other IT teams on infrastructure projects, testing, and special initiatives.

Maintain detailed service records using an IT service management platform.

Prioritize and manage multiple support requests while meeting customer expectations.

Participate in after-hours support and work flexible schedules as business needs require.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field preferred.

Minimum 2 years of IT support experience, preferably within the Oil & Gas industry.

Strong knowledge of:

PC hardware and software support

LAN/WAN networking

Site-to-site VPN connectivity

Wireless networking (Cisco preferred)

Web-based applications

Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11

Experience supporting:

Microsoft Server 2019

Cisco routers and switches

Mobile devices (iOS, Android, air cards, etc.)

LaserJet and multifunction printers

Experience with IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms; BMC Remedy preferred.

Fluent in written and spoken English.

Preferred Certifications

Candidates with the following certifications are highly desirable:

CompTIA A+

CompTIA Network+

Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)

Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST)

HDI Desktop Field Support Technician

Equivalent industry certifications

Physical Requirements

Ability to routinely lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Travel Requirements

Up to 80% travel for local and regional site support, including occasional overnight stays.

Routine travel within approximately a 100-mile radius of Manvel, TX, with occasional longer-distance travel.

Valid driver's license and excellent driving record required.

Reliable personal vehicle required; mileage reimbursement provided.
