Job Description

Mecklenburg County, Virginia Salary:
$55,000.00 - $60,781.00 annually, plus extensive benefits
Classification:
E3 Do you want to use your technical skills to support the systems that keep Mecklenburg County running smoothly? As Mecklenburg County's IT Technician II , you'll provide skilled technical support across multiple County departments, ensuring employees have reliable access to the technology they depend on to serve the public every day. This position blends hands-on support, system maintenance, and user assistance. You'll troubleshoot and resolve technology issues, assist with system upgrades and deployments, and support key technology used in County government operations — including public safety equipment that helps keep our community safe. What You'll Do Serve as a primary point of contact for desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and basic network support across County departments. Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 1-2 technical issues, escalating complex incidents when necessary. Install, configure, and maintain hardware, peripherals, and standard software applications Assist with the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of key systems Support user onboarding for public safety systems, including account setup, device configuration, and system access. Monitor systems for performance and functionality, reporting issues to appropriate teams. Maintain accurate documentation of support requests, system changes, and equipment inventory. Provide general IT support to other County departments as needed. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with department staff Provide technical support to specialized County systems, including equipment used by Emergency Communications, EMS, Sheriff's Office, and other public safety agencies when needed. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least two (2) years of professional technology experience, including internships. Working knowledge of Windows OS, computer hardware, and basic software troubleshooting. Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work across multiple departments. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to County sites as required. Must be able to pass a background check. Preferred Qualifications Experience providing Tier 1-2 IT support in a help desk or desktop support environment. Familiarity with Active Directory, Office 365, MDM (Mobile Device Management), and standard ticketing systems. Experience troubleshooting desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devices in a multi-department environment. Demonstrated interest in professional development, including relevant certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, etc.), with County support available for continued training.
