Job Description
Convergent Science is a rapidly growing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) company. Our flagship product, CONVERGE, is a state-of-the-art CFD software suite used by industry and research organizations around the world to simulate turbulent reacting flows in complex geometries. Convergent Science is headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, with additional offices in the USA, Europe, and India. Position Overview We are seeking a Junior Linux Systems Administrator for our headquarters in Madison, WI. While this role has a wide variety of duties, the primary responsibilities will be twofold, 1) providing help desk support to our Linux desktops and other infrastructure across our headquarters in Madison, as well as our 3 U.S. offices and 2 branch offices abroad, and 2) providing direct customer support for the licenses we sell (no experience needed). The Madison office also hosts an HPC cluster of roughly 10,000 cores with a mix of CPUs and networking, along with multiple petabytes of various storage systems. We don't expect any HPC system administration experience, but this is a great opportunity to expand your IT experience in a fast-growing, ever-evolving industry where we support some of the most cutting-edge research and software development in HPC. The Junior Linux Systems Administrator will be joining a team of four other system administrators, including the IT Manager, to whom this position will report. All IT personnel are located in the Madison office, and we're looking for a candidate with excellent customer service skills and a desire to learn, fully supported by your fellow system admins in a team atmosphere. The ideal candidate will have at least some basic knowledge and experience with Linux and general IT support, but we hope this position will learn and grow into a seasoned linux system administrator, with full autonomy (following direction from management) to troubleshoot and create various servers, services, and networks.
Responsibilities:
Support and troubleshooting of our Linux desktops Various helpdesk support of printers, phones, laptops, and other devices Maintenance and expansion of our 10,000+ core cluster (basic computer hardware knowledge, such as replacing power supplies and troubleshooting hardware issues) Occasional Windows desktop/laptop support License administration: create licenses for our customers, and provide basic support for installing and running our software (this is learned on the job, but leans on basic Linux and Windows knowledge) Specific technologies we use include : RHEL & derivatives (Rocky, CentOS, etc), Ubuntu Windows and Windows Server DHCP, DNS, routing, subnets, VLANs, VPN FreeIPA, LDAP, Active Directory NFS, Samba, BeeGFS VMWare, Proxmox bash, python, perl, PHP scripting Ansible, Rundeck, Gitlab Slurm, MPI's (IntelMPI, HPC-X, mpich, openmpi) We don't expect candidates to have knowledge of all (or even most of) these technologies, but some familiarity with Linux, Windows, and basic networking is required.
