About Us Epia Neuro is a neural technology company developing intent-driven systems designed to restore function and independence for people living with neurological conditions. Its platform integrates implantable neural interfaces, adaptive algorithms, and assistive devices to translate neural intent into real-world action. The company's initial focus is stroke-related motor impairment, with expansion in cognitive decline and other neurological disorders, focusing on long-term solutions for the growing aging population. The Role We're looking for a Junior Embedded Firmware Engineer who can contribute to the entire stack of embedded software development, all the way from board bring-up to embedded software development and testing. As a Junior Embedded Firmware Engineer, you will report to the Senior Manager of Firmware Engineering. Location This role is based out of the San Francisco Bay Area and expected to work on site from our Alameda Headquarters minimum 3 days a week. How We Work We are intentional. Getting it right matters more than being right. What You'll Do Develop, test, and optimize embedded software for iota's devices across the entire product lifecycle using C/C++. Write Python scripts and applications to interface with embedded devices (e.g., over BLE, UART, USB, or other protocols) for testing and characterization purposes. Assist in board bring-up and debugging. Perform unit testing, integration testing, and embedded software validation. Debug issues using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and
JTAG/SWD
debuggers Document firmware behavior, APIs, and development processes Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
Qualifications:
BS in computer science, electrical engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience) Articulate, motivated, independent, efficient and able to handle several projects in parallel. Experience with C/C++, Python, Git, and lab equipment like oscilloscopes, power supplies and signal generators (academic, internship, or personal projects) Basic understanding of software design principles embedded systems concepts (interrupts, peripherals, memory, RTOS basics) Familiar with microcontrollers and hardware-software interaction Understanding of serial communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C) Strong problem-solving skills Good written and verbal communication skills Comfortable working in a python environment for prototyping. Basic understanding of electronics and ability to read schematics Preferred qualifications : Hands-on experience with Nordic nRF microcontrollers Familiar with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) concepts (GATT, services, characteristics) Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or automated testing Familiar with USB Experience with embedded debugging tools (Segger J-Link, GDB, etc.) Prior experience working on interdisciplinary projects Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer Ability to perform fine motor tasks, including handling small components and lab tools Ability to work with standard electronics lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies) Occasional standing, walking, and movement between work areas Ability to lift and carry light equipment (up to 25 pounds) Visual ability to read screens, schematics, and inspect small components Work is performed in an office and laboratory environment with regular on-site presence required. Compensation Range:
$92K - $110K
