Job Description

Description of Duties:
We are seeking passionate and skilled technical professionals to directly support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on this critical mission: The Missile Defense Space Enterprise Architecture (MDSEA). This team is on the front lines, shaping the systems that protect us from advanced threats. We are looking for highly motivated, results-oriented professionals who thrive on solving complex technical challenges in a dynamic environment. The Hybrid Platform Engineer serves as a technical innovator bridging the gap between traditional on-premises infrastructure and modern cloud scalability, with a primary focus on VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0 and enterprise hardware stacks like HPE Synergy and NetApp. In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of secure, scalable cloud architectures, including AWS GovCloud and Azure. Leveraging automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and PowerShell, you will modernize the platform's self-service consumption model and sustain next-generation container platforms like VKS (Kubernetes), Docker, and Podman. Responsibilities include managing the full system lifecycle, conducting daily monitoring and backups, performing cyber security mitigations, and ensuring all architectures align with DoD policies and service level agreements.
The candidate will:
Design, implement, troubleshoot, and sustain hybrid environments for the Missile Defense Space Center. Manage the full lifecycle of a secure, air-gapped on-premises infrastructure, with direct ownership from the physical hardware (compute and storage) up through the hypervisor layer. Administration, lifecycle management, and security hardening of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.0 appliance suite. Design and implement secure, scalable cloud architectures (VCF 9.0, AWS GovCloud, Azure for US Government) for enterprise workloads. Design, implement, and sustain Container Platforms such as VKS (Kubernetes v1.35), Docker, and Podman as well as maintain Repositories/Registries. Work with system engineers to identify and define requirements for new systems/system modifications, developing designs, and implementing and testing solutions. Conduct daily system monitoring, system backup and restoral, and application upgrades to ensure optimal and continuous system operations. Be responsible for ensuring system software installations, maintenance, break/fix activities, and cyber security mitigations are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements. Carrying out high-level activities associated with design and system architecture. Leverage strong communication and collaboration skills to ensure integration and compliance across cybersecurity, DevSecOps, sustainment, and application delivery teams. Develop and implement automation to expand the platform's self-service consumption model, enabling faster and more efficient resource provisioning for consumers.
The successful candidate will:

Be able to create and follow standard processes and clearly document results. Effectively function as self-starter and identify risks, issues, and opportunities to leadership. Have excellent presentation, oral and written skills to facilitate effective and efficient interchanges with senior customer management and customers. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge on-prem and cloud platforms in support of defense, intelligence, and enterprise modernization programs.
Basic Requirements:
Must have 14, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience o May be reduced with completion of advanced education Must have 7, or more, years of IT experience with 3 years in cloud engineering roles Must have 1, or more, years of experience working in a management or leadership role Experience with enterprise hardware stack (HPE Synergy, HPE Nimble, NetApp ONTAP, etc.). Experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, HELM, Bash, etc.). Experience with continuous delivery tools (VCFA Blueprints, GitLab, ArgoCD, etc.). Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerization. Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform. Experience designing hybrid and multi-cloud solutions. Understanding of networking, storage, identity, and DevSecOps pipelines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must meet DoD 8570 certification requirements (e.g. Sec+) within 60 days of hire. Must have, or obtain, an active
DoD Secret Security Clearance Desired Requirements:
Have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance or Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility Have a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field Have 1, or more, Cloud certifications (e.g, VMware Certified Professional - VCF Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert). Have experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Federal cloud initiatives. Have experience with model-based system engineering models and tools. Have experience working in an agile environment. Have experience administering a Red Hat Linux environment (RHEL 9.x). Have experience writing and executing with automation tools. Have experience with scripting languages (e.g. YAML, Python, Bash).

$146,000.00 - $171,000.00 per year
