Contract About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our team in Newark, DE on a contract basis. In this role, you will support, optimize, and maintain a critical subsystem of a capital medical device, working with a mature, safety-critical firmware codebase. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers with strong embedded systems expertise, real-time motor control experience, and a passion for developing innovative medical technologies. Key Responsibilities Maintain, optimize, and debug a mature embedded firmware codebase primarily written in C++ with extensive use of C++ templates . Develop and support real-time 2-3 axis motor control systems , ensuring precision, stability, and safety-critical performance. Perform complex system configurations and calibrations to support varying hardware and accessory specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve firmware, board bring-up, and peripheral interface issues. Monitor, manage, and debug CAN bus communication interfaces. Utilize laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to diagnose signal integrity, timing, and hardware issues. Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, calibration procedures, and regulatory documentation. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality embedded firmware solutions. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering , or a related field. Senior-level commercial experience in Embedded Firmware Development . Experience working in regulated industries such as Medical Devices , SaMD , or environments compliant with
ISO 13485
. Expert-level programming skills in C++ (especially template-heavy programming) and C . Strong hands-on experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) . Extensive experience with K61 processors or similar microcontroller platforms. Practical experience developing and tuning real-time motor control systems (2-3 axis) . Strong knowledge of CAN bus protocols and embedded communication stacks. Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers , and other laboratory debugging tools. Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Strong verbal and written English communication skills. Preferred Skills Experience with safety-critical embedded systems. Familiarity with firmware calibration and hardware configuration processes.
