About The Isidore Group The Isidore Group is an established managed IT and cybersecurity services provider serving small and midsized organizations throughout the Chicago area. We provide managed infrastructure, cloud hosting, Microsoft 365, cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery, and technology project services. We are seeking an experienced infrastructure engineer who can take ownership of client projects, solve difficult technical problems, and provide technical leadership to our growing service team. The Position The Senior Infrastructure & Projects Engineer is responsible for translating established technical solutions into well-planned, successfully completed projects. The position leads server migrations, new-client onboardings, infrastructure deployments, and other client projects while serving as the senior escalation resource for our service team. This is a hands-on technical position with technical-lead responsibilities. It is not primarily a people-management, sales, or architectural role. Our company leadership establishes technical standards and solution architecture; this engineer turns those designs into executable plans and completed projects. The successful candidate will combine broad infrastructure knowledge with strong project discipline. We need someone who takes ownership, communicates problems early, delegates appropriately, and consistently brings projects to completion. Primary Responsibilities Plan and execute Windows Server migrations and infrastructure projects Lead the technical execution of new-client onboardings Convert approved solution designs into project plans, tasks, timelines, and deliverables Coordinate and delegate defined project work to other technicians Serve as the senior internal escalation point for complex technical issues Provision and maintain our clustered Microsoft Hyper-V cloud infrastructure Administer and troubleshoot virtual machines, Hyper-V hosts, clustering, shared storage, and supporting networks Install and migrate servers, firewalls, switches, wireless access points, and related infrastructure Perform Microsoft 365 migrations, configuration changes, and troubleshooting Support backup, disaster-recovery, cybersecurity, and hosted communications solutions Test completed work and ensure projects are fully documented and properly closed Maintain accurate documentation of client environments Mentor developing technicians and assist them with complex troubleshooting Advise service coordination staff on technical assignments and required skill levels Communicate project status, risks, and blockers clearly and promptly Meet with clients during project planning and implementation Visit Chicago-area client sites when project work requires it Participate as a senior escalation resource for occasional after-hours incidents Technical Environment Our environment includes: Windows Server and Active Directory Microsoft Hyper-V and failover clustering HPE Nimble shared storage Veeam Backup & Replication Cisco Meraki firewalls, switches, and wireless networking UniFi access control, video surveillance, switches, and wireless networking Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams Managed endpoint, XDR, cloud-security, email-security, and backup platforms Physical and virtual server migrations Multi-client SMB infrastructure environments Expert-level experience in every listed technology is not required. The successful candidate must possess strong Windows infrastructure fundamentals, broad technical judgment, and the ability to learn unfamiliar platforms independently. Required Qualifications Five or more years of progressively responsible infrastructure engineering or systems administration experience Experience supporting multiple small or midsized business environments Demonstrated responsibility for planning and completing server migrations Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and related infrastructure Hands-on experience with Microsoft Hyper-V or comparable enterprise virtualization platforms Solid networking knowledge, including routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls, and wireless networks Experience supporting Microsoft 365 environments Working knowledge of backup, recovery, and business-continuity systems Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across servers, networks, cloud services, and security platforms Experience coordinating multiple concurrent projects Strong technical documentation and client-communication skills Ability to work primarily from our Burr Ridge office and travel to local client sites Availability to provide occasional after-hours escalation support Preferred Qualifications Three or more years of MSP or multi-client consulting experience Experience with clustered Hyper-V environments Experience administering HPE Nimble storage Experience with Veeam Backup & Replication Experience with Cisco Meraki networking Experience leading new-client technical onboardings Experience delegating project tasks and mentoring junior technicians Relevant Microsoft, networking, virtualization, backup, or security certifications What Success Looks Like A successful person in this position: Takes responsibility for outcomes without trying to perform every task personally Breaks projects into clear, manageable deliverables Delegates work according to technician skill and availability Balances technical thoroughness with deadlines and business priorities Identifies risks and asks for assistance before a project falls behind Communicates progress and blockers consistently Maintains high technical and documentation standards Remains calm and methodical during difficult escalations Helps other technicians become more capable and independent Completes projects cleanly, including testing, documentation, and handoff Benefits Medical, dental, and vision premiums covered up to 80% for employees and 50% for dependents Quarterly performance-bonus opportunity of up to $1,000 per quarter 401(k) with employer match up to 4% 10 vacation days, with up to five unused days carried forward Five sick days, seven paid holidays, and two paid volunteer days Bereavement and jury-duty leave $50 monthly cell-phone stipend Company-provided polos and button-down shirts with business-casual dress Certification training materials and exam fees for approved certifications Company vehicle available for client-related travel Weekly catered breakfast and lunch Stocked employee lounge with healthy snacks and drinks, ping-pong, and video games Primarily in-office work with reasonable scheduling flexibility around required business-hour coverage Professional development and training opportunities Direct access to company leadership and meaningful influence over project delivery Broad technical exposure across infrastructure, cloud, networking, backup, and cybersecurity Application Please submit your résumé along with a brief description of a server migration or infrastructure project that you personally planned and completed.
