Job Description

Target salary range:
$148k•$160k . The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors. Systems Engineer Position Overview The Systems Engineer supports the design, integration, assessment, and sustainment of complex systems within Department of Defense (DoD) programs. This role evaluates system performance, identifies issues, and develops technical solutions to improve system functionality, efficiency, and reliability. The position involves collaboration with stakeholders across technical and non-technical domains and is structured across multiple levels based on experience, education, and responsibility. Key Responsibilities Assess systems to identify performance issues and develop technical solutions Design, develop, integrate, upgrade, and maintain complex systems Recommend and implement system improvements and enhancements Collaborate with clients, vendors, program managers, and IT personnel throughout system development and sustainment Develop and apply system control features to ensure compliance with quality standards Support quality control processes to ensure system efficiency and operational readiness Conduct cost-benefit analyses to support development of cost-efficient system solutions Participate in system lifecycle activities including requirements analysis, design, testing, and sustainment Lead systems engineering efforts across complex DoD programs Serve as technical authority for system design, integration, and lifecycle management Oversee development and implementation of system architecture and control frameworks Ensure systems meet performance, reliability, and quality standards Lead cross-functional coordination among stakeholders, vendors, and government personnel Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers Evaluate enterprise-level system improvements and modernization strategies Approve or guide cost-benefit analyses and system investment decisions Minimum Qualifications Education Master's degree (MA/MS) from an accredited college or university Preferred Fields of Study Systems Engineering Engineering (General or related discipline) Computer Science Substitutions 3 additional years of experience plus a bachelor's degree, OR 6 additional years of experience without a bachelor's degree Experience 10+ years of systems engineering experience supporting DoD programs Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle management Ability to analyze, design, and integrate complex systems Experience with system performance evaluation and troubleshooting Knowledge of quality control and system validation processes Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration Ability to conduct cost-benefit and system effectiveness analyses Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities Ability to translate operational needs into technical system solutions Experience working in DoD or similarly complex technical environments
