Job Description
The Enterprise Architecture SME - Software Governance / Approved Software List is responsible for providing senior-level enterprise architecture support, with primary focus on Enterprise Architecture Development activities related to software governance, architecture compliance, standardized technology guidance, and maintenance of the Agency Approved Software List. This role supports the evaluation of applications and technologies against SSA's architectural direction, the development of governance processes and implementation plans, the creation and maintenance of reference architecture guidance, and the management of approved software records and supporting documentation. The position works closely with government architects, technical stakeholders, and program teams to ensure that software and technology decisions align with enterprise standards, modernization goals, and governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, evaluate, and recommend updates to software and technology governance processes, standards, and implementation plans.
- Support maintenance of the Agency Approved Software List and ensure alignment with SSA reference architecture, standards, and modernization objectives.
- Assess and document whether applications and technologies comply with the agency's architectural direction and governance requirements.
- Assess and document the level of effort necessary to bring non-compliant applications or technologies into compliance with the agency's architectural direction.
- Develop transition recommendations and governance actions for applications or software products that do not align with approved standards.
- Support development and maintenance of standardized reference architectures and guidance across application, data, platform, infrastructure, and operations domains.
- Collaborate with agency stakeholders to promote standardized use of approved software and reference architecture components.
- Maintain governance-related architecture records, reports, diagrams, and supporting documentation in the EAIS repository.
- Gather and analyze technical and business information needed to support software governance reviews, software approvals, and related decision-making.
- Prepare technical documents, reports, and executive-level presentations related to software governance, approved software tracking, compliance findings, and recommended actions.
- Support software inventory analysis and contribute to governance decisions regarding standardization, rationalization, and approved technology usage.
- Provide training, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing support related to software governance processes, approved software practices, and architectural compliance.
- Contribute to weekly status reporting, governance documentation, and other work products.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field, with 8+ years of relevant experience in enterprise architecture, software governance, technology governance, application portfolio analysis, or architecture compliance; or a master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience with Enterprise Architecture, including reference architectures, standards development, and governance processes.
- Experience evaluating applications and technologies for compliance with architectural direction and enterprise standards.
- Experience supporting software governance, technology governance, approved products review, or enterprise software standardization efforts.
- Experience developing and maintaining governance documentation, approved software inventories or lists, compliance assessments, and remediation recommendations.
- Experience with Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA), TOGAF, or comparable enterprise architecture methodologies and frameworks.
- Experience developing technical documents, reports, and executive presentations for governance and decision-support purposes.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, SharePoint, and Confluence.
- Strong analytical, organizational, record-keeping, and technical writing skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to work across technical and business teams.
- Experience maintaining architecture and governance artifacts in repositories and supporting document control practices.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.
