Functional Safety Engineer

About the
Job:
We are seeking an experienced Functional Safety Engineer with strong expertise in
ISO 26262
to support automotive system development. This role is ideal for a highly motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about safety-critical systems.
Role and Responsibilities:
Lead development of functional safety system requirements and functional decomposition for automotive systems
Review and approve HARA, Functional Safety Requirements, Technical Safety Requirements, and validation testing activities
Contribute to and influence vehicle architecture from a functional safety perspective
Review and approve Development Interface Agreements and other safety documentation with suppliers and partners
Lead development and improvement of functional safety processes, tools, and readiness metrics
Drive SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Functionality) requirements for autonomous driving systems and subsystems
Define and implement functional safety concepts for system, hardware, and software per
ISO 26262
standards
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (hardware, software, design, validation) to ensure compliance
Support hazard analysis, safety concept development, and validation activities
Partner with internal teams and suppliers to establish functional safety interfaces
Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversight
Skills and Experience:
Extensive knowledge of
ISO 26262
with hands-on experience delivering functional safety work products
Minimum 8 years of experience in functional safety engineering or related fields
At least 1 year of experience performing SOTIF analysis and developing associated deliverables
Demonstrated success leading or contributing to functional safety programs
Experience supporting external or third-party audits and reviews
Strong understanding of safety responsibility split between OEMs and suppliers
Experience with safety and requirements tools such as Medini, APIS IQ, and Jama
Excellent written, verbal, and organizational communication skills
Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in Agile development environments
Familiarity with CMMI and Automotive SPICE frameworks
Background in embedded systems development (hardware and/or software)
Advanced engineering degree
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, computer, electronic, mechatronics, or related field required)
Advanced degree preferred
