Medallion Instrumentation Systems, a division of Patrick Industries, is seeking an Embedded Platform Engineer to lead embedded platform development from initial hardware bring-up through production launch. This role is responsible for low-level platform software, Linux and Android platform integration, kernel and driver development, embedded firmware, and system reliability. The Embedded Platform Engineer will provide technical leadership across the embedded software stack while partnering closely with hardware, systems, manufacturing, and product teams to deliver high-quality embedded products.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Embedded Platform Bring-Up & Hardware Enablement Lead embedded platform bring-up activities from initial power-on through production release

Develop and maintain boot software including U-Boot, ARM Trusted Firmware, and custom bootloaders

Configure and validate low-level hardware initialization including memory, clocks, power management, and peripheral interfaces

Lead

DDR/DRAM

bring-up, tuning, and stability validation across operating conditions

Debug complex hardware and software integration issues throughout the complete boot chain

Collaborate with hardware engineering teams on board design reviews, prototype validation, manufacturing readiness, and production support

Utilize JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related tools to diagnose hardware and system issues Linux Platform Development Port, customize, and maintain Linux distributions on ARM and ARM64 embedded platforms

Integrate and maintain vendor Board Support Packages (BSPs)

Develop userspace environments utilizing Yocto, Buildroot, Debian, Ubuntu, Alpine Linux, or similar platforms

Optimize platform boot time, performance, reliability, and maintainability

Support long-term platform lifecycle management and software quality initiatives

Troubleshoot and resolve Linux platform issues across multiple product generations Kernel, Driver & Middleware Development Develop, customize, integrate, and maintain Linux kernel variants and device drivers

Support graphics, display, camera, imaging, audio, wireless, storage, and high-speed interface technologies

Develop and maintain support for embedded communication buses and peripheral devices

Integrate multimedia, graphics, networking, and hardware acceleration frameworks

Debug issues spanning firmware, kernel drivers, middleware, and userspace applications

Support system performance tuning and optimization activities Embedded Firmware Development Develop embedded firmware for MCU-based subsystems, including ARM Cortex-M platforms

Support mixed Linux and MCU architectures utilized for sensing, control, power management, and peripheral management

Develop and maintain hardware abstraction layers, peripheral drivers, and low-level firmware

Support RTOS-based systems including FreeRTOS and similar environments

Apply real-time design principles including task scheduling, synchronization, interrupts, and concurrency management

Troubleshoot and optimize embedded firmware performance and reliability Firmware Updates, Recovery & System Reliability Design and implement firmware deployment, update, and recovery mechanisms

Support OTA update capabilities, secure update frameworks, A/B partitioning, rollback, and recovery workflows

Maintain firmware version control, release processes, and software deployment standards

Improve overall platform resiliency, uptime, and security

Support cybersecurity initiatives related to embedded systems and firmware

Ensure systems meet reliability and long-term support requirements Android Platform Integration Support Android platform bring-up and deployment activities

Integrate bootloaders, kernels, BSPs, HALs, and vendor-specific Android components

Troubleshoot Android platform issues across software layers

Optimize system performance, stability, and reliability

Support Android-based embedded product development initiatives

Collaborate with system architects and application developers on Android platform solutions Technical Leadership & Collaboration Provide technical leadership for embedded software architecture and platform design decisions

Mentor engineers and promote software engineering best practices

Participate in code reviews, architecture reviews, and technical planning sessions

Collaborate with hardware, systems, manufacturing, and product teams throughout the product lifecycle

Support continuous improvement initiatives related to embedded software development processes

Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and product quality efforts Qualifications and Skills Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline

8+ years of experience developing embedded Linux systems and Board Support Packages

Strong experience with ARM and ARM64 processor architectures

Expert-level C programming skills

Working knowledge of assembly language programming

Experience bringing embedded products from development through production launch

Experience developing and maintaining Linux kernels, device drivers, and embedded software platforms

Knowledge of embedded boot architectures, bootloaders, and low-level hardware initialization

Experience with

DDR/DRAM

bring-up and hardware validation activities

Experience with Yocto, Buildroot, Debian, Ubuntu, Alpine Linux, or similar Linux build environments

Experience with embedded firmware development and RTOS-based systems

Familiarity with Android platform integration and customization

Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated software build and test environments

Experience utilizing JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and related debugging tools

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities

Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within small to medium-sized engineering teams

Strong written and verbal communication skills
