Preferring to 'show' vs. 'tell', Client Engineering co-creates with clients, in real-time, on solutions to solve their hardest business challenges.

As a Platform Engineer within Client Engineering, you'll be a key player in a multi-disciplinary team made up of Architects, AI Engineers, Designers, and Business Technology Leaders. The brightest and most creative minds collaborate with clients as one team, contribute to experiential working sessions, and build. The outputs of which produce pilots that lead to the deployment of enterprise-scale solutions at start-up speed.

  • Your role and responsibilities
  • As an IBM Z Platform Engineer within IBM Client Engineering, you'll play a key role in delivering unique client co-creation experiences to accelerate their application modernization transformation.
You'll be involved in all aspects of integrated solutions, from identifying requirements to making technical decisions that impact the business case. Your role as a Platform Engineer will be to work with cross-functional teams to realize the full potential of our hybrid cloud and AI solutions to prove business value to our clients.

  • Working with clients across all markets (Financial, Industry, Public, Federal, Select, Select Horizon) in selling IBM Z software (AI and Non-AI) through the implementation of workshops, bootcamps, PoC / Pilots.
  • Leverage contemporary skills for z/OS applications (e.g., Generative AI, DevOps (code analysis, development, test, debug, package, deploy, automation tools), security, networking, and storage) with deep industry expertise and an understanding of your client's business to implement PoC's with supporting activities such as demos, presentations, and workshops.
  • Define and communicate the unique value of IBM's Z software, technically and commercially, using a show-and-tell approach.
  • Participate in client sessions that include a range of hybrid cloud technologies, such as Red Hat OpenShift, IBM Cloud Paks, and Generative AI solutions, such as watsonx Code Assistant, Test Accelerator for Z, all in the context of IBM Z.
  • Support the solutions architecture plan and be a hands-on "builder" during client-facing engagements.
  • Advice on solution architecture aligned with IBM Z platform best practices, focusing on our client's target environment to ease deployment.
  • Work with deployment teams to transition platform assets and information, ensuring seamless transitions for our clients.
  • Required technical and professional expertise
  • Minimum 5 years of Platform engineering experience installing and configuring software in RedHat Enterprise Linux, Containers, and OpenShift.
  • Practical knowledge and direct experience working with IBM TechZone environments, provisioning and building them and using SaaS services in IBM Cloud
  • Some knowledge of IBM Z, z/OS and its components that include, z/OS
DB2, VSAM, IMS DB, IMS
TM, MQ, z/OSMF, Linux on Z
  • Knowledge of modern z/OS application analysis, development and debugging tools,IBM Developer for Z/OS (IDz), VSCode (Z Open Editor), z/OS Debugger
  • Practical knowledge and direct experience working with z/OS application development, testing, and deployment.
  • Proven track record in participating and leading customer-facing technical discussions while handling objections
  • Understanding and practical application of Agile best practices.
  • Preferred technical and professional experience
  • 3 years of experience with PL1 and Assembler application development and COBOL applications interacting with Assembler
  • Experience in packing, deploying, and running on Java on z/OS, interoperability of COBOL and Java applications in z/OS
  • Experience with z/OS development and test tools, such as z Development and Test (zD&T)
  • Experience in developing collaborative client relationships at all levels within organizations.
  • Experience working in dynamic team environments and cross-functionally with teams such as Product Management, Engineering, and Customer Success.
