Full Job Description Senior Systems Engineer Systems Engineer, Servers/Cloud/Data Location:
Must be able to work onsite Tue, Wed, & Thursday out of one of these office locations: New York, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; Durham, NC Position Overview We are seeking a Systems Engineer focused on servers, cloud, and data infrastructure to design, deploy, and operate scalable, secure compute platforms. This role will lead implementation of identity management, container orchestration, and high-performance computing (HPC) solutions across distributed systems, collaborate with development and operations teams, and automate tasks using Python to ensure reliable, high-performance services. Key Responsibilities Design, deploy, and maintain server, cloud, and data infrastructure with a focus on scalability, reliability, and security. Implement and manage identity and access management (IAM) solutions, ensuring secure authentication, authorization, and auditing across platforms. Build, operate, and optimize Kubernetes clusters and associated container tooling for production workloads. Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based systems at scale, including configuration management and performance tuning. Design and support HPC environments and workflows, including resource scheduling, MPI, and GPU/accelerator management. Architect and troubleshoot distributed systems, ensuring fault tolerance, observability, and efficient networking. Develop automation, tooling, and integrations using Python for deployment, monitoring, and operations tasks. Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, and engineering teams to define operational runbooks, SLAs, and incident response processes. Evaluate and integrate cloud services (IaaS/PaaS) and hybrid solutions, and drive cost and performance optimizations. Document architectures, operational procedures, and security controls; mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of systems engineering or SRE experience working with servers, cloud platforms, and data infrastructure. Proven experience with identity management systems (e.g., LDAP, Active Directory, OAuth/OIDC, SAML) and implementing secure IAM policies. Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes (cluster provisioning, networking, Helm/operators, CSI, RBAC). Deep Linux administration skills including kernel tuning, storage, networking, and automation. Experience designing, deploying, or operating HPC environments and familiarity with schedulers (Slurm, PBS) and MPI/GPU workloads. Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts (consensus, partitioning, replication, consistency) and practical troubleshooting skills. Proficient in Python for automation, orchestration, and building operational tools; familiarity with REST APIs and CI/CD pipelines. Experience with monitoring/observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) and logging, metrics and alerting best practices. Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills; experience working in cross-functional teams.Preferred:
cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP), Kubernetes certifications (CKA/CKAD), and experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible).
