This role leads systems design and integration efforts, drives technical standards, and serves as the highest escalation point for complex infrastructure issues across compute, storage, identity, and cloud platforms. The Senior Systems Engineer III collaborates closely with security, networking, application, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure solutions aligned with organizational strategy. Key Responsibilities Architect, design, and engineer highly available, secure, and scalable infrastructure solutions across on-premises datacenters and cloud platforms. Lead the full lifecycle of infrastructure solutions, including requirements gathering, high-level and detailed design, implementation, documentation, testing, and transition to operations. Serve as the senior Tier III escalation point for complex incidents affecting infrastructure services; lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and long-term remediation planning. Engineer and govern core identity and access management services, including directory services, hybrid identity, single sign-on, conditional access, and privileged access controls. Lead major infrastructure initiatives such as cloud migrations, datacenter consolidations, directory redesigns, platform modernizations, and enterprise automation efforts. Define, document, and enforce standards and reference architectures for system security, hardening, patch and configuration management, performance, and observability. Design and validate backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity architectures, including runbooks, testing procedures, and recovery objectives. Develop and maintain advanced automation, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code solutions to improve consistency, scalability, and operational efficiency. Partner with security teams on vulnerability management, tooling integration, compliance controls, and remediation of infrastructure-related findings. Collaborate with network and application teams to ensure solutions are properly integrated, performant, and aligned with enterprise architecture and business objectives. Provide senior-level technical leadership and mentorship to systems administrators and engineers, guiding design decisions, technical standards, and knowledge transfer. Evaluate emerging technologies, perform proofs of concept, and contribute to infrastructure standards and multi-year technology roadmaps. Required Qualifications Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering or systems administration, including ownership of complex enterprise infrastructure. Deep expertise in Windows Server, enterprise identity platforms, and Microsoft 365 or comparable enterprise collaboration environments. Strong experience engineering infrastructure in Azure or an equivalent cloud platform, including compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, and security services. Proven experience designing and implementing highly available and resilient architectures, including clustering, load balancing, redundancy, and recovery strategies. Advanced automation and scripting skills using PowerShell and other relevant tools to build robust administrative and deployment workflows. Solid understanding of enterprise networking and security concepts, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, firewalls, TLS certificates, VPNs, and secure application publishing. Demonstrated success leading major infrastructure projects from design through implementation and operational handoff. Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and design standards. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced infrastructure, cloud, virtualization, or identity certifications from major vendors. Experience supporting environments with formal regulatory, audit, or compliance requirements. Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management frameworks. Experience contributing to enterprise architecture standards, platform strategy, and long-range infrastructure planning.
