LEAD SYSTEM ENGINEER
Job Description:
About FlightSafety International FlightSafety International is the world's premier professional aviation training company and supplier of flight simulators, visual systems and displays to commercial, government and military organizations. The company provides training for pilots, technicians and other aviation professionals from 167 countries and independent territories. FlightSafety operates the world's largest fleet of advanced full-flight simulators and award-winning maintenance training at Learning Centers and training locations in the United States, Canada, France and the United Kingdom. Purpose of Position The Lead System Engineer supports Aircrew Training System (ATS), Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) programs, and new business efforts via the performance of systems engineering, project engineering, subcontractor management, modification design, logistics engineering and proposal estimation and proposal preparation tasks. Tasks and Responsibilities Analyzes technical requirements and develops specifications and Statements of Work (SOW) for modifications, updates, improvements to, and/or new ATS/CLS program components. Assigns SOW authoring to appropriate engineers within the department. Reviews and edits Statements of Work, Specifications, and technical documents prepared and/or submitted by others. Reviews technical authoring for Program Proposals and Business Development requirements. Supports program management and logistics functions via the performance of analyses and trade studies. Prepares cost estimates and technical text for ATS proposals, ECPs, ACSNs and CCPs. Accomplishes subcontractor/vendor technical design reviews and audits. May direct subcontractor personnel or provide in-depth analysis of subcontractor performance for progress payment purposes. Participates as a presenter and/or technical advisor in customer technical interchange meetings, audits and program reviews. Prepares subcontractor/vendor specifications and SOWs for RFPs and subcontracts. Performs technical evaluations of proposals received and prepares recommendations for upper management. Prepares SOW and ITOs for new business efforts. Provides technical support on new business efforts. Travels to ATS sites and subcontractor facilities. Performs make/buy analyses. Manages modification projects, including cost and schedule management and reporting. Assigns department engineers specific duties according to resource availability and specialty requirements. Assists in the development of new business proposals. Performs other duties as assigned.Job Requirements:
Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline or four years combination of education, experience, and training, in addition to what is listed below. Minimum Experience Ten years of aircrew training system or flight simulation device experience (support, modification, update) with military/DOD engineering standards including specification and configuration management practices. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently or with others without constant direct supervision. Ability to tactfully manage and direct subcontractor personnel. Ability to exercise good judgment and to assume responsibility for accuracy and completeness of work. Ability to accept direction from other managers on various projects. Ability to accurately use a computer and software. Solid knowledge of ATS design and logistics engineering concepts. Physical Demands and Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is regularly required to sit, use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The teammate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The teammate must have close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
