Job Description

Forward Deployed Engineer Company:
Tribe Transportation Role:
Forward Deployed Engineer Department:
Technology /
Operations Integration Location:
Hybrid (MWF) About the Role Tribe Transportation is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to bridge the gap between emerging AI capabilities, low-code automation tools, and day-to-day freight operations. We are actively transforming complex operational workflows across freight brokerage, billing, accounting, payroll, and logistics operations. While our backend engineering team constructs enterprise infrastructure, this role is centered on rapid operational acceleration—auditing manual workflows, deploying intuitive GUI and low-code automations, leveraging AI tools, and embedding directly with business teams to drive immediate adoption and ROI. This is not an IT support role or vendor management position. We are looking for an execution-focused builder—a hybrid solution architect and operational consultant who can sit down with dispatchers, accountants, and line managers, reverse-engineer manual business processes, and rapidly ship practical automations that eliminate daily friction.
What You'll Do Process Auditing & Discovery:
Sit directly with operational leads and dispatchers to shadow workflows, map end-to-end data paths, identify manual bottlenecks, and translate operational friction into technical automation projects.
Rapid Prototyping & GUI Automations:
Utilize workflow orchestration engines (n8n, Make), low-code application builders (Retool, Appsmith), and pre-built AI components to construct functional prototypes and production automations in days rather than months.
Operational AI & Prompt Engineering:
Leverage multimodal vision-LLMs, OCR capabilities, and pre-built agentic skills to automate routine operational tasks such as document intake, email triage, rate confirmation checks, and exception flagging.
Human-in-the-Loop & UI Controls:
Build user-friendly review screens, dashboards, and escalation queues where operational staff can easily review and validate non-deterministic model outputs before data hits core systems.
Integration & API Stitching:
Connect core internal systems, webhooks, third-party logistics APIs, and database views using low-code connectors and lightweight HTTP scripts to ensure seamless data flow across platforms.
Adoption, Training & Feedback Loops:
Serve as the primary champion for AI adoption within operational departments. Train staff on new automated tools, measure time savings, and continuously iterate based on real-world feedback.
Engineering Hand-Off & Collaboration:
Partner closely with the AI Automation Engineering team to identify when a successful GUI prototype requires full-scale backend architecture, high-concurrency database modeling, or custom microservice infrastructure. What We're Looking For We care significantly more about what you can build and ship than buzzwords or certification lists. The ideal candidate brings a pragmatic problem-solving mindset, combining strong hands-on technical abilities with exceptional operational intuition and soft skills. Hard Skills Workflow & Low-Code Engines Workflow Orchestration (n8n, Make, Zapier, or equivalent visual pipeline engines) Low-Code UI Builders (Retool, Appsmith, or internal tool platforms) Scripting & API Engineering Python (Lightweight scripting, text/JSON data cleaning, custom API connectors) SQL (Basic to intermediate queries, joining operational tables, data extraction) REST APIs & Webhooks (Consuming HTTP endpoints, reading API documentation, testing via Postman/Curl) AI & Automation Paradigms Prompt Engineering & Commercial LLMs (Structuring prompts, JSON outputs, utilizing OpenAI/Gemini/Anthropic APIs) Document Extraction & OCR (Parsing unstructured PDFs, invoices, BOLs, and email content) Human-in-the-Loop Workflows (Designing intuitive escalation queues and user review interfaces) Soft Skills & Operational Competencies Business & Logistics Acumen Process Discovery (Ability to interview operational teams, reverse-engineer manual workflows, and map data flows) Domain Familiarity (Understanding freight operations, brokerage, billing, or general logistics workflows) Communication & Execution Rapid Prototyping Mindset (Bias toward action, fast iterative testing, and quick time-to-value) Technical Training & Coaching (Translating complex AI concepts into simple, usable tools for non-technical users) Cross-Functional Collaboration (Acting as an effective bridge between operational managers and core backend engineers)
