Job Description

The incumbent will perform a wide variety of tasks at a professional and technical level. The position of Information Technology Systems Engineer is responsible for the high-level information technology systems including design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of IT systems. Specific responsibilities are in the areas related to server products, email systems, disaster recovery, datacenter, and VMware virtualization. The Information Technology Systems Engineer supports and works directly with faculty and staff in resolving related technology issues. Incumbent reports to the Information Technology and Telecommunications Director.
Important Information:
This is a career ladder position; applicants will be considered for the highest level for which they qualify. Hiring Range for the Information Technology Systems Engineer I/II - $69,000 - $86,000. 1. Manage and maintain core College equipment and software, ensuring systems remain secure, up-to-date, and properly configured. 2. Manage file storage systems and access controls, including the implementation of secure permissions and data protection practices. 3. Responsible for centralized account management systems, including secure provisioning, deprovisioning, and oversight of identity hygiene. 4. Responsible for integration of IT systems with authentication services and single sign-on, including associated security controls. 5. Manage and maintain datacenter systems—including storage systems, servers, secure configuration baselines, and server virtualization. 6. Manage and maintain the College backup and disaster recovery systems/processes, including secure retention practices and validation of backup integrity. 7. Manage and maintain the College networks including wireless networks, AAA systems, and related network security controls. 8. Manage and maintain the College application and device management systems, including security compliance for updates and configurations. 9. Manage and maintain College software applications including licensing, documentation, implementation/deployment, and adherence to security best practices. 10. Manage and maintain the College surveillance and access control systems, including secure configuration and system integrity. 11. Manage and maintain the College email systems and instant messaging platforms, including security filtering and anti-phishing protections. 12. Manage and maintain the College phone systems and carrier circuits. 13. Manage inventory and maintain documentation relevant to all College systems, including security-related configurations. 14. Manage and maintain cybersecurity monitoring capabilities to support visibility into system health, security events, and anomalous activity. 15. Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls—including endpoint protection, identity and access management, and adherence to security configuration standards—as part of overall systems engineering responsibilities. 16. Serve as an operational member of the College's incident response function by reviewing alerts, investigating potential security issues, coordinating remediation actions, and documenting activities in alignment with IT leadership. 17. Support routine security assessments, vulnerability remediation, and incident response activities in coordination with IT leadership. 18. Maintain logging, monitoring, email security, and other technical safeguards required for audit, accreditation, and regulatory alignment. 19. Contribute to cybersecurity documentation, disaster recovery validation, and security awareness efforts to support institutional risk management. 20. Work with faculty and staff to identify and implement technology solutions that enhance processes, efficiency, and security. 21. Lead, delegate work assignments, provide technical assistance, provide training, monitor/review quality of work, and provide input on performance of peers within the engineering group. 22. Act in the absence of the IT Director to support College systems. 23. Performs other duties as assigned. Information Technology Systems Engineer I 1. Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field or four years of experience in information technology systems engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and/or information technology systems engineering experience. 2. Practical hands-on experience with system design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. 3. Experience managing IT projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams. 4. Experience implementing, testing, and maintaining security measures. Information Technology Systems Engineer II 1. Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field plus two years of professional experience related to information technology systems engineering or an equivalent combination of education and/or information technology systems engineering experience. 2. Practical hands-on experience with system design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. 3. Experience managing IT projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams. 4. Experience implementing, testing, and maintaining security measures.

Work Schedule:
This position follows a primarily Monday-Friday, on-site work schedule to support regular campus operations and ensure direct interaction with team members, faculty, staff, and campus systems. Telecommuting or remote work is not permitted, as the role requires hands-on access to infrastructure, equipment, and secure technical environments. While most work occurs during standard business hours, the position may occasionally require night or weekend work to support planned maintenance, system upgrades, project implementations, or urgent technical needs.
Physical Requirements:
1. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform work; however, the position also requires the ability—with or without reasonable accommodation—to walk; stand; bend; kneel; climb ladders, scaffolding, or ramps; and carry, push, or pull items weighing between 20-100 pounds as needed to perform essential job functions. 2. Work may occur in office settings, datacenter environments, mechanical rooms, or similar technical spaces that are adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. Risks are typical of these environments and include the safe use of office and technical equipment, avoiding trips and falls, exposure to elevated noise levels, and observing fire and electrical safety regulations. Must pass a thorough background investigation.
