Acting as the primary point of contact for facility-related matters, this role coordinates and manages data center infrastructure activities, including equipment installation, maintenance, upgrades, and facility modifications. The Systems Engineer II will monitor environmental and operational conditions, including power consumption, temperature, humidity, and overall facility performance, making adjustments as necessary to maintain optimal operating conditions. This position also responds to facility incidents and emergencies, supports continuity of operations, and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure the data center environment meets operational, reliability, and customer requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May provide technical oversight and direction to support personnel, contractors, vendors, and project teams. What You Will Do in This Role You will be responsible for leading the daily operations, maintenance, and modernization of mission-critical data center infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime, reliability, security compliance, and efficient performance while coordinating technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders across enterprise systems.
Responsibilities include:
Manage daily operations of mission-critical data center facilities, ensuring high availability, reliability, and consistent operational performance across all systems and services Oversee critical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, power distribution, HVAC and cooling systems, BMS, EPMS, and DCIM platforms, to maintain safe, efficient, and resilient operations. Lead capacity planning, lifecycle management, infrastructure assessments, and modernization initiatives to ensure scalability and alignment with evolving operational needs. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOWs, PWSs, IGCEs, technical requirements, and project documentation supporting infrastructure initiatives. Manage facility upgrades, infrastructure deployments, technology refreshes, consolidations, and migrations from planning through execution and commissioning. Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance programs in accordance with manufacturer guidance, industry standards, and operational best practices. Implement and support risk management, business continuity, disaster recovery, emergency response, and contingency planning to ensure mission continuity. Monitor performance metrics, analyze trends, and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, resiliency, sustainability, and user satisfaction. Ensure compliance with applicable federal regulations, cybersecurity requirements, FISMA, NIST standards, organizational policies, and operational procedures. Collaborate with engineers, facility teams, cybersecurity personnel, vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to support successful mission execution. Prepare executive briefings, technical reports, and operational updates for leadership and stakeholders. Provide subject matter expertise for enterprise data center initiatives and cross-facility support as needed. What You Will Bring Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Facilities Management, Data Center Operations, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 8+ years of experience supporting data center operations, critical infrastructure, facilities management, or enterprise IT environments. 3+ years of experience leading technical teams, projects, contractors, or operational support functions. Experience managing mission-critical environments requiring high availability, operational resiliency, and continuous service delivery. Experience supporting infrastructure modernization, facility improvement projects, capacity planning, and lifecycle management initiatives. Demonstrated experience managing vendors, maintenance providers, contractors, and stakeholder relationships. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience interacting with Government customers and senior leadership. Experience developing technical documentation, operational procedures, reports, and project artifacts. Preferred qualifications Experience supporting regulated, security-focused, or highly structured operational environments, including familiarity with compliance-driven operations and frameworks. Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS), SCADA, and other operational technology (OT) platforms. Experience with critical infrastructure systems and initiatives, including UPS, generators, power distribution, HVAC, cooling systems, environmental monitoring, and data center construction, commissioning, migration, consolidation, and modernization projects. Experience supporting hybrid and cloud-integrated environments, including enterprise monitoring and observability solutions. Professional certifications such as PMP, ITIL, Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA), or equivalent industry credentials. Experience supporting business continuity, disaster recovery, emergency response, and risk management programs. Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in complex, mission-critical technical environments. Work authorization/security clearance requirements Ability to obtain a security clearance. Work Environment This work is normally completed in an on-site and remote environment. Physical Demands Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's and client facilities. Travel Required No Proficiency Requirement The employee is expected to demonstrate proficiency in all essential job functions, tools, and processes related to this position within the first 90 days of employment. This includes acquiring a thorough understanding of job-specific responsibilities, systems, and workflows as outlined during onboarding and training.
