Advocate IT is seeking a Senior VDI/HCI Lead Engineer to support a U.S. Air Force SIPRNet Thin Client and Network Infrastructure deployment at Goodfellow Air Force Base. This position combines the traditional responsibilities of a VDI/HCI Solution Architect and Senior Virtualization Engineer , providing end-to-end technical ownership from architecture and detailed design through hands-on implementation, integration, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and knowledge transfer. Key Responsibilities Serve as the technical lead and design authority for the VDI and hyperconverged infrastructure environment Design, configure, install, and integrate Dell VxRail or comparable HCI infrastructure Configure and administer VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and vSAN environments Design, configure, and deploy VMware Horizon virtual desktop infrastructure Configure Horizon desktop pools, policies, brokering, and supporting services Support an environment designed for approximately 300 virtual desktop/thin-client endpoints and at least 150 concurrent users Perform VDI/HCI capacity planning for compute, memory, storage, networking, GPU, and licensing requirements Design for system resiliency, availability, redundancy, and operational continuity Configure and validate virtual GPU capabilities where required Integrate VDI/HCI components with Air Force-provided identity, network, cybersecurity, and enterprise services Coordinate closely with Cisco network, cybersecurity, Gold Image, and Government technical personnel Support VDI integration with Air Force-approved Windows Master Gold Images Perform system integration, functional testing, performance testing, troubleshooting, and technical issue resolution Support pilot deployment and controlled production deployment activities Develop architecture diagrams, build documentation, configuration records, as-built documentation, and operational procedures Support Government acceptance testing and resolution of technical discrepancies Provide hands-on knowledge transfer to Air Force technical personnel Participate in Integrated Product Team meetings, technical reviews, and project status discussions Serve as a technical alternate to the Project Manager/Site Lead when required Minimum Qualifications Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience supporting enterprise virtualization, VDI, or hyperconverged infrastructure environments Demonstrated experience performing both solution architecture and hands-on implementation Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and vSAN Experience designing, deploying, or administering VMware Horizon environments Experience with Dell VxRail or comparable enterprise HCI platforms Experience with VDI capacity planning, desktop pools, brokering, performance optimization, and troubleshooting Working knowledge of enterprise networking concepts including VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and network segmentation Experience producing technical design, configuration, implementation, and as-built documentation Ability to work with Government personnel, cybersecurity teams, network engineers, and other infrastructure specialists Ability to perform primarily on-site work at Goodfellow Air Force Base Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher Preferred Qualifications Prior Dell VxRail deployment or implementation experience VMware Horizon implementation experience VMware VCP-DCV, VCP-DTM, or comparable certification Dell Technologies VxRail certification Experience supporting U.S. Air Force or Department of Defense environments SIPRNet, NIPRNet, or classified network experience Experience supporting DISA STIG-compliant environments NVIDIA vGPU or comparable virtual GPU experience Experience supporting zero-client or thin-client deployments Experience conducting technical knowledge transfer to Government system administrators Benefits Advocate IT offers competitive compensation and a strong benefits package, including: Health, dental, and vision insurance options Paid time off and holidays Professional development and training opportunities Certification and technical training support Career growth opportunities within a growing
