Job Description

Job Title:
Systems Engineer Job Description This Systems Engineer role focuses on developing and managing system requirements for existing automotive parts and products. You will analyze customer specifications, DVP&R documents, and related technical information to create clear, traceable system requirements and matrices. Working closely with other engineers, you will support the development of next-generation prototypes in a regulated automotive environment and contribute directly to the growth and success of a fast-growing organization. Responsibilities Review and interpret customer specifications, DVP&R documents, and related engineering materials to understand product requirements. Develop and document system requirements for existing automotive parts and products based on customer specifications and product research. Create and maintain requirement traceability and matrices to ensure full coverage from customer needs through system implementation and testing. Derive detailed system requirements from customer specifications and existing products, initially using spreadsheets to organize and track requirements. Collaborate closely with other engineers to support the design and development of next prototypes for automotive applications. Write and maintain test plans that validate system requirements and ensure compliance with customer and regulatory expectations. Work within a regulated environment, adhering to applicable automotive and road-related standards and regulations. Participate in technical discussions and design reviews to ensure that system requirements are clear, feasible, and aligned with project objectives. Support continuous improvement of requirements development and traceability processes, tools, and documentation practices. Essential Skills 3+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer or in a closely related systems engineering role. Proven experience developing system requirements for existing parts and products, preferably in the automotive sector. Strong ability to read and interpret customer specifications (SPECs) and DVP&R documents. Hands-on experience creating requirement traceability and matrices to link customer needs to system requirements and tests. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering. Experience working in a regulated environment, with automotive industry experience highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to write clear, structured test plans that align with system requirements. Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS or similar platforms. Proficiency with spreadsheets for organizing, tracking, and analyzing requirements data. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with commercial vehicles or other systems subject to road regulations is beneficial. Experience in engineering environments where compliance and documentation quality are critical. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in requirements definition and traceability. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Good written and verbal communication skills for documenting requirements and participating in technical discussions. Interest in gaining deeper automotive experience and contributing to the development of new prototypes in a fast-growing organization. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Tomball, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
