Job Description

We have an outstanding Contract position for aSenior Cybersecurity Consultant (Federal)to join a leading Company in theWashington, DCsurrounding area.
Pay Rate:
$70 - $90 /hour
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Candidates must possess an Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • This role is a Senior Cybersecurity Consultant position focused on evaluating and optimizing a small set of security tools within a federal environment, specifically supporting the United States Department of State.
The consultant leads assessments of tool usage, effectiveness, ownership, and cost to determine whether each tool should be retained, improved, or replaced. They gather insights through stakeholder interviews, data analysis, and documentation review, then translate findings into clear, executive-level recommendations. Strong experience with federal frameworks like FISMA and NIST Risk Management Framework is expected. The role requires independent execution, strong communication skills, and the ability to deliver actionable results within a fast-paced 8-week engagement.
Basic Hiring Criteria:
+ 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity consulting or advisory roles, preferably in federal environments + Demonstrated experience performing security tool assessments, rationalization, or portfolio optimization + Strong working knowledge of enterprise security tools (e.g., Splunk, CrowdStrike Falcon, vulnerability management, IAM, network security) + Proven familiarity with federal cybersecurity frameworks such as FISMA and NIST Risk Management Framework + Ability to conduct stakeholder interviews and facilitate working sessions with senior government personnel + Strong analytical skills, including cost-benefit analysis and operational efficiency evaluation + Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience delivering executive-level reports and recommendations + Active Secret clearance and ability to work on-site in a federal environment
Desired Qualifications:
+ Security tool rationalization and assessment experience in enterprise environments + Experience evaluating enterprise security tools such as Splunk, CrowdStrike Falcon, and Tenable Nessus + Ability to identify tool overlap, capability gaps, and cost inefficiencies across security portfolios + Broad cybersecurity knowledge across SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, IAM, and network security domains + Prior experience supporting federal cybersecurity environments, including agencies such as the United States Department of State, DoD, DHS, or the Intelligence Community + Familiarity with federal cybersecurity frameworks such as FISMA and NIST Risk Management Framework + Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including conducting interviews and facilitating working sessions with technical and executive stakeholders + Experience performing cost-benefit analysis and operational efficiency assessments of security tools + Ability to translate technical findings into clear, executive-level recommendations + Experience producing structured reports and executive-level presentations for leadership audiences + Ability to manage scope, timelines, and deliverables independently in fast-paced consulting engagements Benefits offered to vary by the contract.
