Although the role is more technical, the candidate must be capable of interacting with people and not just be a "behind a screen" contributor. This is a technical cybersecurity position within our Portfolio Operations team â?? not a portfolio company hire. The Portfolio Cyber Engineer is a hands-on technical specialist responsible for assessing, configuring, and improving cybersecurity control environments across the firm's portfolio.

The role is execution-oriented:

you will work directly with portfolio company IT teams and managed service providers to remediate gaps, harden configurations, and track maturity improvements against our minimum cybersecurity requirements. The scope is broad by design. You will operate hands-on across approximately ~15 companies simultaneously, while interfacing at times with the other ~75 companies in the portfolio, and navigating heterogeneous technology environments â?? different EDR platforms, firewall vendors, identity stacks, and MSP relationships. The ability to move between environments quickly, configure systems hands-on, and hold remediation accountable without direct authority is the core of this role.

Core Responsibilities:

• Conduct remote configuration assessments across portfolio company cybersecurity platforms, including EDR, email filtering, DNS filtering, MFA, vulnerability scanning, and SIEM/log monitoring environments.
• Provide hands-on remote configuration support directly to portfolio company IT staff and managed service providers â?? not advisory guidance, direct technical execution.
• Drive portfolio-wide proactive assessment cycles to surface control deficiencies before they escalate to incidents.
• Lead targeted remediation engagements for portfolio companies carrying low cyber maturity ratings under our cyber risk framework.
• Verify remediation completion and track coverage improvements through the Tidal Cyber portfolio management dashboard.
• Translate Capital minimum cybersecurity requirements into platform-specific configuration standards for the tools deployed across the portfolio.
• Develop and maintain configuration optimization playbooks for security platforms in active use across portfolio companies.
• Identify and remediate security tool coverage gaps â?? including tools not deployed, misconfigured, or not monitored â?? across portfolio environments.
• Coordinate remediation workstreams with portfolio company IT counterparts and MSPs; maintain delivery accountability without direct reporting authority.
• Report remediation status, maturity trajectory, and outstanding risk exposure to Portfolio Operations leadership on a regular cadence.
