The Security Administrator will serve as backup and support to the Server Administrator when the Server Administrator is unavailable. This position will serve as the Security liaison between the Director of IT and the Texas DIR, perform monthly reporting, penetration testing and other measures to ensure the security of our systems and network.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the TX DIR to ensure that the college meets all the TAC202 guidelines. Will be responsible for Cyber Security training, vulnerability testing, identifying security risks and maintaining a risk register that will identify the risk, the level of risk and the dollar amount to remedy that risk. Assist Server Administrator in general server operations which may include monitoring backup routines, printer services and server-interoperability. Assist Server Administrator in controlling systems which deliver end-user services, including file permissions for users, printer access, group policies, software distribution, and workstation security (antivirus/malware systems). Provide technical support and solve the basic and more advanced routine user hardware and software problems or questions, including desktop computer hardware and software and enterprise system software. Provide professional, courteous, prompt and accurate support and solutions to users. Communicate, analyze and troubleshoot user problems and provide proper solutions or remedies. Establish priorities on Service Desk tickets based on established departmental guidelines and procedures. Properly document problem tickets in online Service Desk System and follow up and communicate ticket information to users when appropriate. Assist other IT technical staff as requested. Identify complex, multi-faceted problems and take immediate action to address them. Train IT technician staff in the use of standards and best practices. Communicate with Texas DIR on Security matters. Review regular penetration testing and other security analysis with the Director of IT. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong customer service orientation. Understanding of desktop hardware/software troubleshooting and repair. Ability to learn new technologies and understand similarities and key differences. Highly skilled at explaining technical subjects to non-technical, as well as technical customers. Ability to prioritize tasks to be completed in the short-term. Detailed understanding of Windows operating systems. Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures, as well as Service Desk, departmental guidelines and operating procedures. Ability to communicate effectively; clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with all levels of the college community, including the ability to exercise patience, tact and good judgment in dealing with end users. Good typing and communication skills. Must be willing to work flexible hours when necessary, and occasional weekends.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Associate's degree and/or two (2) + years as IT Tech and 1+ years working with server or workstation administration. Two (2) + years' experience in preparing technical documentation or reports using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
Preferred:
Microsoft Professional (MSP) certification. Windows Server administration experience. CompTIA or similar certification a plus (Server+, Network+, Security+, Tech+, A+)
WORKING CONDITIONS
Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Busy working environment with numerous interruptions. Will be required to provide support to all campus locations and travel to those locations. Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable by the College insurance policy. May be required to drive a College vehicle for off-campus travel.
SALARY:
Commensurate with education and experience (this is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months)
