Data Engineer

Description We are looking for an exceptional data engineer to join a high-impact team working at the intersection of hardware, software, and machine learning. This is a zero-to-one role. You will not be inheriting a mature system or optimizing an existing pipeline. You will be designing, building, and shipping production-grade data infrastructure for a cutting-edge sensor system — from the first line of code to full deployment — in a team that moves with the urgency and resourcefulness of a startup, with the rigor and quality bar of a world-class technology organization. You will own the full data lifecycle: from raw sensor collection across a diverse fleet of hardware devices, through automated processing, validation, and curation, to delivering clean, structured, ML-ready datasets that directly fuel product and AI/ML development. You will work closely with data collection engineers, ML researchers, and product teams — often making critical architectural decisions with incomplete information, under real time pressure, and with no existing playbook to follow. This role is not for everyone. It is for the engineer who thrives in ambiguity , who sees a blank whiteboard as an opportunity rather than a risk, who takes pride in building things that have never been built before, and who holds themselves to an exceptionally high bar — not because they are told to, but because they cannot imagine doing it any other way . Top Skills Python, Aws, Image data, data validation Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in ML research where pipelines evolve rapidly Familiarity with AWS-based data storage and processing Experience working with remote compute environments where local storage is insufficient Exposure to ML modeling concepts — experience with LLMs or ML model development is a strong plus Experience working with external vendors for data collection or labeling Strong communication skills with the ability to translate algorithm needs into executable data protocols Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Cupertino, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
