Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance About Us Wize Solutions is a Virginia-based IT consulting firm. We deliver Power Platform, RPA, C#/.NET, Power BI, and AI solutions for public and private sector clients. The Role We're looking for a backend-focused data engineer with strong SQL Server experience to join our team supporting a commercial client that does federal work. You'll also help protect sensitive data through masking and sound security practices. What You'll Do Develop and tune SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, and indexes Build and maintain ETL pipelines that move data from source systems into the warehouse Support and extend data warehouse models (fact and dimension tables) Create and manage SQL Server Agent jobs, schedules, alerts, and failure handling Structure backend data so Power BI datasets (semantic models) refresh reliably and perform well Work with report developers to troubleshoot refresh failures, slow queries, and data issues that trace back to SQL Apply data masking to protect sensitive data in production and non-production environments Monitor and resolve performance issues across queries, jobs, and data loads Document data flows, job schedules, and data models What You Bring Ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance (U.S. citizenship required) 3 to 5 years of hands-on SQL Server development Strong T-SQL skills, including query tuning and execution plans Experience building ETL processes (SSIS or similar tools) Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling Experience creating and managing SQL Server Agent jobs Solid understanding of how Power BI datasets connect to SQL Server (Import vs. DirectQuery, refreshes, gateways) and what the backend needs to support them Experience with data masking and handling sensitive data (PII) Clear communication with both technical and non-technical people Nice to Have Active federal security clearance Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, or Microsoft Fabric experience Experience on federal contracts or programs Microsoft certifications (DP-203, DP-600, or similar)
