Zions Enterprise Data & Analytics is looking for a Data Governance Engineering Intern to join our Enterprise Data Governance Engineering (EDGE) team. Our team serves as the technical hub for data governance across the enterprise. We manage the product lifecycle and provide platform support for foundational systems that power our data-driven decision-making. As an engineering-first governance team, we drive technical enablement for data quality architecture, data classification, data rights, and data protection, while maintaining and scaling the common terminology framework that keeps our enterprise aligned. The Data Governance Engineering Intern will :

Enable Technical Governance Platforms:

Assist in supporting the product lifecycle and deployment of central data governance platforms (e.g., metadata catalogs, data discovery, and data lineage environments).

Build Data Quality Solutions:

Partner with our data quality team to design, develop, and automate data quality validations, reconciliation rules, and data observability monitors to ensure confidence in critical enterprise data.

Support Terminology Frameworks:

Help manage and integrate the common enterprise business glossary and data catalog mappings to align business terms with technical database attributes.

Drive Classification & Protection:

Assist with projects aimed at automated data discovery, classification, and scanning of structured and unstructured data environments to strengthen data rights and protection.

Integrate & Document Metadata:

Evaluate and implement automated documentation pipelines, mapping data lineage and structural metadata using relational databases and programmatic APIs.

Qualifications Education :

Working toward a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.

SQL & Relational Databases:

Solid foundational knowledge of relational databases with experience writing and optimizing SQL queries.

Analytical Mindset:

Strong problem-solving, structural thinking, and organizational skills with an eye for spotting anomalies or inconsistencies in datasets.

Programming & Automation:

Exposure to programming languages (preferably Python) or scripting for automation, data parsing, or working with REST APIs.

Data Concepts :

Understanding of fundamental data concepts such as metadata, data quality, data warehouses, or security controls.

Software Development Best Practices :

Familiarity with modern software collaboration tools (e.g., Git/version control, Azure DevOps, or basic CI/CD concepts) is a plus.

Communication & Collaboration :

Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with the ability to explain technical layouts or workflows clearly.
