We are seeking a data analytics professional to join our growing division within the Environmental Services department at Metro Water Recovery. Responsible for conducting data analytics activities that contribute to the development, optimization, and implementation of data-driven solutions for wastewater treatment and operations as well as enterprise performance and business intelligence solutions that support organizational-wide programs and services. The Staff Data Analytics Engineer is expected to perform intermediate-level data engineering, reporting, and automation tasks while contributing to applied research and technology evaluation efforts. This position reports to a Principal Data Analytics Engineer or assigned Senior Manager. Examples of Duties Develop, optimize, and maintain ETL (extract, transform, load) workflows for operations analytics, enterprise analytics, or other business intelligence functions. Provide sustained analytics and reporting services supporting both wastewater operations and enterprise performance management needs including the automation of data collection, transformation, and reporting. Assist in performing root cause analysis and identifying opportunities for improvement. Build and maintain dashboards and reporting tools. Responsible for sustaining analytics products and dashboards beyond initial deployment, ensuring reliability, usability, and stakeholder adoption. Implement intentional automation solutions to improve efficiency, reliability and decision making in alignment with Metro's digital transformation goals. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to translate strategic goals into reporting and analytics services. Contribute to enterprise KPI development and performance benchmarking. Ensure analytics programs remain effective and sustainable through ongoing maintenance, stakeholder support, and continuous improvement. Participate in testing and validation of analytics solutions. Write technical documentation for system processes, data integration, and report development. May assist with mentoring junior staff on analytics practices. Contribute to process improvement initiatives by providing data-driven insights. Troubleshoot and debug complex data processing issues, finding solutions with minimal support. Other duties as assigned.Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of:
Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, and cloud-based analytics platforms. Intermediate knowledge of machine learning fundamentals and AI applications. Cloud-based platforms, process data historians, and data warehouses. Data blending, integration, and visualization tools. Basic understanding of change management processes. Data governance concepts such as data ownership, lineage, or quality standards Skilled at: Working with both operational/process datasets or business/adminstrrative datasets Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or PIVision, and overall dashboard development Experience working with APIs and integrating disparate data sources Proficiency in developing automation workflows using ETL tools (e.g., Alteryx, Python, R, etc.) Microsoft Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, data validation, and macros Writing and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation Performing initial data validation and troubleshooting issues Ability to: Identify trends and insights from large datasets to support decision-making Communicate technical findings effectively to stakeholders and non-technical staff Work effectively in cross-functional teams Learn and implement new technologies independently Implement data integrity techniques for identifying outliers and anomalies Education, License, and Certification Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
