Job Description

Role Name:
Data Governance Analyst Location- NYC - 10001 (4 days in the office per week)
Duration:
6+ month contract with possible extensions Video Interview Must have the following 2-6 years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related analytical role, with hands-on Alation experience OR strong data governance experience/credentials/Certification (CDMP), or a background in data privacy laws such as CCPA or GDPR. The ideal candidate will have both Alation and strong formal data governance knowledge, but candidates who bring strength in one area, along with solid related experience, will be considered. Must also bring excellent communication and process-documentation skills, a strong understanding of metadata management, data dictionaries, classification, lineage, and stewardship, and the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities Curate and maintain enterprise data assets in Alation across multiple business platforms and data sources. Create, populate, and maintain accurate data dictionary definitions and column descriptions. Support data lineage documentation, metadata management, and identification of trusted data sources. Develop and maintain SOPs, runbooks, knowledge articles, workflow documentation, onboarding materials, and step-by-step governance guides. Document end-to-end processes for data classification, catalog curation, onboarding, compliance reviews, and related governance activities. Develop and maintain business glossary terms and definitions in partnership with subject matter experts. Support data classification across Public, Internal, and Restricted information. Identify, tag, and document PII and other sensitive data with appropriate classifications and policy references. Partner across Technology, BI, Information Security, HR, Finance, Marketing, Revenue Strategy & Operations, Productions, and other business functions. Facilitate conversations between technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding data definitions, ownership, standards, and governance requirements. Help develop Alation training materials and onboard new teams to the data catalog. Promote adoption by demonstrating how data governance and cataloging improve teams' day-to-day work. Manage governance requests and workflows through ServiceNow. Support testing of governance-related system changes and coordinate testing with data owners. Contribute to governance reporting and status updates for senior leadership. Requirements 2-6 years of data governance, data management, metadata management, or related analytical experience.
Ideal:
Hands-on Alation experience and strong data governance experience/training/certification.
Strong alternative:
Hands-on Alation experience with demonstrated knowledge of governance principles OR strong governance experience/credentials with experience using a comparable enterprise data catalog. Understanding of metadata management, data classification, lineage, stewardship, business glossaries, and data governance practices. Experience developing and maintaining data dictionaries. Strong process-documentation skills, including SOPs, runbooks, knowledge articles, workflows, or similar structured documentation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex data concepts in clear business language. Demonstrated success collaborating across multiple departments and stakeholder groups. Comfortable interacting with individual contributors, technical teams, business stakeholders, directors, and VPs. Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams. Collaborative, approachable, proactive, curious, and relationship-oriented. Able to influence without direct authority and drive participation in governance processes.
Preferred:
ServiceNow experience; knowledge of data privacy and PII practices; Tableau or BI/reporting exposure; responsible AI governance awareness; experience developing training materials; experience in media, entertainment, or sports; and experience working in a complex multi-business-unit organization.
Pay:
$45.00 - $54.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
