Job Description

Data Analyst | Madonna University | Livonia, MI At our partner institution at Madonna University The Data Analyst serves as a critical player on the IT team, working directly with end users to define, interpret, and document their needs. This person will be driven to grow, actively invested in building relationships with the end users they support, as well as with the technical team members they work with. The most successful person will be capable of working as an individual and as a team member. Individual time will be spent creating reports in Power BI, InfoMaker, leveraging Visio to create process flow diagrams, and creatinguser documentation. However, time will also be spent directly engaging with our customers, seeking first to understand the needs, then working to create and test reports and outputs before delivering to the requestor. The ability to have an open dialogue, be willing to hear and positively respond to criticism, and the understanding that sometimes requirements need to change, is paramount to success. A tenacious but respectful attitude for driving end user feedback and responsiveness, is also a key indicator of what success will look like. This person will need to take communication to a level beyond a traditional email handoff. Successful use of variety of modes of communication will be needed, including working meetings, sometimes remote and sometimes in person, to resolve data errors and present a visualized understanding of a request. This position will take part in some application administration for our Document Management System (OnBase) and lead third party application integration file creation and SFTP scheduling, as well as some routable form building in Jenzabar's JICS Portal product. This person will partner with Institutional Research to assist with campus reporting, as needed. At times, this position works collaboratively with others on our team to support usersthrough the creation of custom triggers in our Student Information System and the creation of scheduled batch SQL jobs to automate processes. This position is located in Livonia, MI on-site at Madonna University. Hybrid work will be considered. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Hours may vary.
Responsibilities:
Managing master data, including creation, updates, and deletion Provide quality assurance of imported and exported data Commissioning and decommissioning of data sets Processing confidential data and information according to guidelines Helping develop reports and analysis. Managing and designing the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata Supporting the data warehouse in identifying and revising reporting requirements Supporting initiatives for data integrity and normalization Generating reports from single or multiple systems, working collaboratively with other team members to leverage SQL, SSRS, InfoMaker, and PowerBI Troubleshooting the reporting database environment and reports Evaluating changes and updates to source production systems Meet with end users to gather requirements, validate data and report output, create proof of concept reports, and refine reports based on end user feedback Help end users to utilize dashboards, reports, and general data extracts effectively, participating in the creation of new how-to videos and short training sessions where applicable Follow best practices to ensure end user data is protected and recoverable Support end user requests for our Document Management System (OnBase) including creation and editing of forms, workflow, and user management including creation and editing of security groups Work with other IT staff to create automated third-party application integration, including creating flat file outputs and managing SQL job scheduling and SFTP testing, scheduling, and verification Work with other IT staff and end users to create user forms in our Jenzabar Portal Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential Provide productive feedback and process improvement ideas Research new reporting technologies, including BI and Data representation models, and make recommendations for improvements Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training Prior experience in creating reports with InfoMaker Prior experience working with functional users in a higher education setting Display strong end user orientation and customer support service skills Experience with gathering end user requirements, validating output of reports before sharing with end users, and continually refining with end user feedback Detail-oriented w/strong problem-solving data validation focus and report troubleshooting skills Demonstrated experience working with a team to achieve goals Adaptive and flexible, with a positive 'can do' attitude Resourceful and quick to take initiative Prioritization while multi-tasking under pressure and within short time constraints Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal abilities Able to work independently and professionally with all levels of the organization Ability to adjust work schedule to business needs Must be able to lift 50 lbs. as needed to move equipment across the campus environment Must be able to sit for long periods at a time and or stand for long periods at a time Must be able to crawl under desks or tables for technology equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced proficiency with reporting tools including SQL Studio and InfoMaker Experience working in a Higher Education environment Experience with Jenzabar SIS Experience creating database triggers and automated SQL processes Experience with application integration and automated SFTP processes
