Southern California University of Health Sciences is currently seeking a part-time rank-eligible clinical faculty member for the role of Health Data Analyst. The Health Data Analyst will support projects across the Clinical and Health Services Research (CHSR) project portfolio with primary responsibilities of executing data management and analysis for all assigned research projects. This includes work on funded projects at SCU Heath, collaboration with large research universities, and supporting small faculty research activity across the institution. This position uses statistical knowledge and skills to conduct analysis of large health claims datasets, including Medicare and Medicaid data, which will be supported by guidance and mentorship from our senior data scientist and two biostatisticians. Experience as a licensed clinician provides expertise in clinical fields and workflows, as well as diagnostic and procedure codes needed for the position. Active licensure is not required. Opportunities and support will be provided to help establish an independent body of research as a Principal Investigator on federally funded research. Faculty rank for this position is optional and will be determined based on portfolio submission and evaluation by university committee. This is a part-time position with an expected workload of 20 to 30 hours per week. There may be an opportunity to expand into a full-time role (40 hours per week).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for managing large and/or complex datasets Develops datasets by performing data cleaning, data validation, and data reporting Maintains detailed documentation of data management and programming codes Ensures the integrity and security of data Collaborates with other members of the analysis team and/or the broader research team Develops data management and analysis plan for grant proposals and IRB submissions Uses advanced statistical and data programming skills to manage and analyze data (e.g., R, SAS, Stata) Compiles and organizes healthcare data Summarizes and interprets complex analyses Filters and "cleans" complex datasets Able to create, modify, and run multifaceted database queries and produce reports Creates complex charts, graphs, and tables to summarize analysis results Prepares materials and drafts technical sections of presentations and written documents Develops and maintains databases by acquiring data from primary and secondary sources, and builds scripts that will make the data evaluation process more flexible or scalable across datasets Provides clinical expertise and input for project development, execution, and dissemination efforts Fosters collaboration between team members, both internal and external to the department Contributes regularly to team meetings and shares regular and timely updates on the research projects Performs other duties as assigned Attendance Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time. Fully Remote with On-site Opportunities While this position is fully remote, there may be opportunities to attend meetings or events on the SCU campus as relevant to a particular project or initiative. Local candidates may also have opportunities for on-campus clinical hours, if desired, as an expansion of the role. Candidates should expect to be available and responsive during the standard workday, with some flexibility for time zone differences within the U.S. Computer and other equipment necessary for remote work will be provided. Candidates must have reliable, secure internet connectivity. Intellectual Should the candidate be engaged in health research projects at the time of hiring, such work would transfer to the affiliation with SCU or be continued outside of SCU working hours. The health data analyst may retain affiliation with other institutions, provided they do not interfere with the work time and responsibilities of the data scientist role. Any data collected or analyzed in this role will be owned by SCU and/or its collaborators and will be retained by SCU should the data scientist leave the role. Candidates should expect to collaborate closely with members of each project team and may frequently take a leadership role regarding the handling of data throughout the research process. Doctoral degree in health-related field (medicine, nursing, public health, biostatistics, health informatics, etc.) Clinical experience in licensed integrative or allied health profession (DC, Lac, PT, OT, RN, etc.) Research training and/or experience, including analysis of large public health claims datasets Experience as co-investigator, clinical-investigator, data analyst, and/or subject matter expert on funded research Early record of some peer-reviewed publications and presentationsLANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.COMPUTER SKILLS
Experience with: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) Statistical software (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R, Stata) Data Visualization tools (Tableau) Experience with survey tools (REDcap, Qualtrics)OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES/ QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, etc.) Statistical and analytical skills with the ability to organize, clean, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of data with attention to detail and accuracy Ability to take initiative, problem-solve, exercise excellent judgment, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and adapt to frequently shifting priorities in diverse settings Expertise in data modeling and understands relationships between data items Self-starter with good time management, initiative, and professional work style Experience with health-related data and/or population surveys Ability to clearly interpret and implement healthcare data analysis policies and procedures Ability to prioritize and multitaskPHYSICAL DEMANDS
