Great American Financial Institution Services specializes in providing risk management and product enhancement programs to vehicle lenders and lessors, commercial equipment lenders, auto dealers and mortgage lenders throughout the U.S. and Canada. Target clients include commercial banks, credit unions, finance companies, buy-here pay-here dealers and leasing and rental concerns. The Financial Institution Services Division is hiring for a Data Scientist! Great American's culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on‑site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday-Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Analyzes large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities. Designs, develops, and deploys predictive models for underwriting, pricing, claims, catastrophe modeling. Designs and implements data pipelines and automated reporting tools. Participates in collaborating with actuarial, underwriting, claims, and product teams to translate business problems into data science solutions. Participates in communicating data insights and recommendations to senior leadership through compelling data storytelling and visualization. Monitors and maintains model performance and ensures data quality and integrity. Drives innovation by exploring new data sources, modeling techniques, and technologies to enhance business performance. Participates in collaborating with data engineers to ensure data quality, accessibility, and scalability. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science , or a related quantitative field or equivalent work experience is required.
Experience:
Generally, 3 or more years of experience exploring and manipulating large data sets, leveraging structured and unstructured data sources, and applying predictive modeling. Proficiency with Python, SQL, and machine learning libraries. Proficiency in data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI, etc.) and dashboard development. Experience with cloud platforms (preferably Snowflake). Prior experience with geospatial data or catastrophe modeling is preferred.
Scope of Job/Qualifications:
Proven experience in techniques for optimizing models, machine learning, and proficiency in analytical programming languages. Develops and maintains an understanding of the organization's business and technology operations. Demonstrates growing knowledge of department policies and procedures. Developing knowledge of industry trends and technologies to continuously improve data modeling and insights as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements and model governance in insurance.
