Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a fully funded Ph.D. position (Research Assistantship) in the Shuai Computational and Integrated Hydrology Group , focusing on hydrologic modeling and machine learning. The prospective Ph.D. student will work on predicting baseflow in snow-dominated watersheds using a combination of physics-based and machine learning models. This position will remain open until filled. The selected student is expected to begin in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 . Qualifications M.S. or B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering or a closely related field (e.g., hydrology, geoscience, or environmental science) by the time the Ph.D. program begins. Strong quantitative skills with prior experience in hydrologic modeling and/or machine learning. Proficiency in a programming language (e.g., Python) is preferred.
