Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Data Center Infrastructure Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of telecommunications and physical IT infrastructure for new construction projects, facility expansions, and existing infrastructure upgrades. This position works closely with facilities teams, architects, construction partners, and technology stakeholders to ensure that network rooms, structured cabling systems, equipment spaces, and supporting infrastructure are designed and delivered according to established engineering standards. The ideal candidate combines strong telecommunications design knowledge with practical experience supporting construction projects, reviewing technical documentation, coordinating vendors, and validating completed infrastructure. What You Will DoInfrastructure Planning and Design Translate business and technology requirements into practical telecommunications infrastructure designs for new facilities and existing buildings. Evaluate network room layouts, equipment locations, rack arrangements, cable pathways, fibre distribution, and copper cabling requirements. Review construction drawings and provide technical recommendations, redlines, and design corrections. Establish requirements for cable containment, grounding, bonding, fire-stopping, labelling, and infrastructure testing. Ensure proposed designs align with TIA-942, applicable TIA standards, BICSI practices, and relevant building codes. Construction Coordination and Technical Oversight Partner with facilities, construction management, electrical teams, and low-voltage contractors throughout project execution. Review contractor submittals, technical proposals, installation plans, RFIs, and proposed scope changes. Develop material estimates, Bills of Materials (BOMs), preliminary cost estimates, and project documentation. Monitor construction progress through onsite inspections and technical reviews. Identify design discrepancies, workmanship issues, and project risks, and coordinate corrective actions with responsible contractors. Track project milestones and help ensure infrastructure work meets approved specifications and delivery schedules. Infrastructure Validation and Project Closeout Review fibre and copper cable testing results and verify that completed work meets acceptance requirements. Coordinate defect resolution, punch-list completion, and final infrastructure acceptance. Maintain accurate records of as-built drawings, equipment layouts, cable schedules, test results, and warranty documentation. Support operational handover by ensuring infrastructure information is recorded in CMDB, NetBox, Nautobot, or equivalent inventory platforms. Recommend improvements to engineering standards and construction delivery processes based on project findings. Capacity and Lifecycle Support Assess rack capacity, available ports, fibre strand utilization, cable pathways, power distribution, and available equipment space. Identify infrastructure limitations before they affect upcoming deployments. Support cable plant upgrades, network room expansions, rack replacements, and other infrastructure lifecycle projects. Assist with infrastructure risk assessments and planning for scheduled power shutdowns or maintenance activities. Required Experience and Skills Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in telecommunications infrastructure, low-voltage engineering, structured cabling design, or IT infrastructure construction. Mandatory working knowledge of TIA-942 and its application to data center infrastructure. Strong understanding of TIA-568, TIA-569, TIA-606, TIA-607, and BICSI industry practices. Experience with fibre optic and copper cabling systems, pathways, cable trays, racks, grounding, bonding, and network room infrastructure. Ability to interpret and mark up architectural, electrical, and telecommunications drawings. Working experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit, or comparable drawing review tools. Proven ability to coordinate low-voltage contractors, construction vendors, and cross-functional project teams. Familiarity with technical specifications, material estimates, quality inspections, testing documentation, and construction closeout. Strong communication, documentation, coordination, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work onsite in Santa Clara, California. Preferred Qualifications RCDD certification or equivalent telecommunications design experience. RCDD certification is not mandatory. Experience supporting ground-up construction, commercial building deployments, large campus expansions, or data center fit-outs. BICSI credentials such as DCDC, OSP, or RTPM, or PMP certification. Familiarity with CMDB, DCIM, NetBox, Nautobot, or infrastructure capacity reporting tools. Experience in large enterprise technology, laboratory, cleanroom, or high-density computing environments. Important Requirements At least basic TIA-942 knowledge is required. This is an onsite position in Santa Clara, CA. The role emphasizes infrastructure engineering, design review, and construction coordination rather than hands-on cable installation. Candidates with a background in telecommunications design, structured cabling programs, data center infrastructure, or low-voltage construction engineering are encouraged to apply.
