Yes Position Summary We are seeking a Commissioning Mechanical Engineer to support the commissioning team at a large-scale data center facility in Chicago, IL. This role is responsible for instructing, evaluating, and certifying commissioning vendors in the execution of functional testing for mechanical systems within mission-critical environments. The engineer will also support the continued development and delivery of accelerated vendor training programs focused on data center mechanical infrastructure and Building Management Systems (BMS). Top 3 Must-Have Skills Data center mechanical systems experience Hands-on Building Management Systems (BMS) experience, including programming, point mapping, sequence validation, and troubleshooting Strong communication and technical training abilities Primary Responsibilities Instructing vendors on the proper execution of functional testing scripts for mechanical data center systems, including:CRAC/CRAH
units Chillers Cooling towers Pumping systems Air Handling Units (AHUs) Associated mechanical infrastructure Train and evaluate vendors on Building Management System (BMS) operations, programming, commissioning procedures, point-to-point verification, sequence of operations validation, and graphics review Evaluate vendor technicians against established competency standards and issue certifications upon successful completion Conduct hands-on field training sessions and technical evaluations Ensure vendors can safely and accurately perform pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing Identify performance gaps and implement corrective action plans Maintain accurate records of certifications, training completions, and evaluation results Audit onsite commissioning activities to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards Secondary Responsibilities Assist with the maintenance, enhancement, and growth of the accelerated vendor training program Support the development and delivery of training materials, assessments, and hands-on exercises Provide subject matter expertise for curriculum updates to align with current mechanical systems, BMS platforms, procedures, and operational standards Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience commissioning mechanical systems in data center or mission-critical environments Strong hands-on experience executing functional testing scripts for mechanical equipment such as chillers, cooling towers, AHUs, CRAHs, and pumping systems Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), including: Programming Point mapping Sequence of operations validation Troubleshooting Strong understanding of data center cooling infrastructure and mechanical systems design Ability to read and interpret: Mechanical drawings P&IDs Sequences of operations Technical specifications Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to evaluate technical competency and provide professional feedback Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in training, mentoring, or instructional roles within commissioning or mechanical environments Experience with BMS platforms such as: Siemens Desigo Johnson Controls Metasys Schneider EcoStruxure Equivalent systems Familiarity with commissioning documentation, including test plans, scripts, and completion reports OSHA 30 certification or equivalent Experience supporting large-scale commissioning programs with multiple vendors Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or similar certification preferred If this is a role that interests you and you'd like to learn more, click apply now and a recruiter will be in touch with you to discuss this great opportunity.
