The Critical Facilities Engineering (CFE) Intern supports the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role offers hands-on exposure to electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, and building automation systems in a high-reliability environment, while working closely with experienced professionals. The team values safety, precision, teamwork, and continuous learning, and is committed to an inclusive and equitable work environment.

This internship program is designed to build foundational skills, safety discipline, and technical curiosity for a long-term career in data center operations and facilities engineering.

12 weeks September-November What You'll Learn & ExperienceAs a CFE Intern, you will:

Gain hands-on exposure to critical infrastructure systems including power, cooling, HVAC, fire systems and building monitoring systems (BMS) Learn how data center facilities are operated, monitored, and maintained in a 24x7 mission-critical environmentDevelop foundational skills in incident response, risk-based facilities management, and preventative maintenanceBuild strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, documentation, and safety awareness skillsKey ResponsibilitiesAssist Facility Technicians and Engineers with daily data center operations and maintenance activitiesSupport routine preventative maintenance checks and basic repairs on non-critical facility components under supervisionParticipate in site walkthroughs to identify and record faults or abnormalities such as water leaks, unusual noise, or equipment issuesMaintain accurate logs, work orders, permits, and maintenance records, including Maintenance Operation Protocol (MOP)Monitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and assist in responding to basic alarms following standard operating proceduresSupport incident management activities, escalating findings to Engineers as requiredQualifications & RequirementsHigh School Diploma or relevant technical/ vocational educationInterest in or exposure to HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems or maintenanceWillingness to work on-site in data center environmentStrong attention to detail, safety awareness, and willingness to learnCustomer-focused mindset and strong teamwork skillsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as climbing, stooping, and manual handling (with or without accommodation)Equinix is committed to ensuring that our employment process is open to all individuals, including those with a disability.
