Job Title:
Data Center Technician 3 / Facilities Technician Job Description This role supports 24/7 data center operations by operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting critical and non‑critical facility systems in a high‑reliability environment through September 30, 2026. You will focus on mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, perform site rounds, monitor infrastructure performance, and respond quickly to issues to ensure continuous, stable operation of the data center. Responsibilities Operate and maintain critical and non‑critical data center infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Perform preventative maintenance on pumps, fire systems, HVAC equipment, and other building systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Conduct regular engineering and site rounds, record system readings, and identify abnormal conditions or potential issues. Monitor power usage, cooling capacity, and environmental conditions within data halls to ensure systems remain within specified parameters. Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to manage, track, and close planned and unplanned maintenance tasks. Maintain accurate documentation of rounds, work orders, maintenance activities, and change management records. Communicate clearly with engineers and other technical staff to relay site conditions, report faults, and receive direction on troubleshooting activities. Support troubleshooting and repair of building systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression equipment. Assist with cleaning, lighting maintenance, and general facility upkeep to maintain a safe and orderly environment. Follow established procedures and safety protocols while working independently in a high‑stakes, mission‑critical environment. Escalate issues appropriately and promptly when conditions deviate from normal operating ranges or when additional support is required. Essential Skills 5-7 years of relevant experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a similar role with strong mechanical, electrical, and fire suppression skills. Hands‑on experience with HVAC systems, including operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting. Practical experience in plumbing and general building maintenance and repair. Experience with facility maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems in a high‑reliability environment. Knowledge of fire suppression systems and their operation and maintenance requirements. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings related to electrical, mechanical, and building systems. Proficiency using a CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) to manage work orders and maintenance tasks. Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to operate safely around electrical systems and follow established safety protocols. Effective communication skills to coordinate with engineers and technical staff and accurately document site conditions. Comfort working in a mission‑critical environment where attention to detail and reliability are essential. Additional Skills & Qualifications 1-3 years of experience in mission‑critical environments, such as data centers or similar facilities, preferred. Prior military experience or technical school training in mechanical, electrical, or related disciplines preferred. Electrical or mechanical license preferred. Experience with lighting systems maintenance and basic cleaning tasks in an industrial or technical environment. Familiarity with fire suppression equipment and associated safety standards. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing operational needs. Strong problem‑solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting technical issues. Work Environment The position is based in a data center facility that operates 24/7 and relies on high‑reliability mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems. Standard schedules are 1st shift, either 6:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will also periodically cover 2nd or 3rd shift, including occasional weekends, with all off‑shift coverage consisting of 12‑hour shifts. Work involves regular site rounds, monitoring equipment, using a CMMS for maintenance management, and performing hands‑on tasks in plant rooms, data halls, and support spaces. The environment is structured and procedure‑driven, with a strong emphasis on safety, documentation, and maintaining stable power, cooling, and environmental conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Hagerstown, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
