Job Description
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
- Strong hands-on experience as a Sybase ASE DBA (typically 5-10+ years depending on role level)
- Solid expertise in Sybase Replication Server administration and troubleshooting
- In-depth knowledge of ASE architecture (engines, caches, devices, segments, tempdb)
- Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and monitoring tools
- Proficiency in backup/recovery, DR planning, and HA implementations
- Good understanding of UNIX/Linux operating systems and shell scripting
- Experience with capacity planning, database growth analysis, and storage management
- Familiarity with change management, release management, and ITIL processes
- Ability to analyze logs, error messages, and system tables to identify root causes
- Exposure to automation using shell/Perl/Python scripts is a plus
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross functional teams
- Banking, financial services, or mission critical production environment experience preferred Roles & Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and upgrade Sybase ASE and Sybase Replication Server across development, test, UAT, and production environments
- Perform database administration activities including creation, configuration, patching, and environment setup
- Manage Replication Server (RS) topology, subscriptions, routes, and connections between primary and replicate databases
- Monitor database and replication health; proactively address performance bottlenecks, latency, and replication failures
- Tune ASE performance (memory, cache, tempdb, I/O, query optimization, statistics)
- Handle backup and recovery strategies using dump/load utilities; perform regular DR and restore testing
- Troubleshoot replication issues such as DSI/SQM errors, latency, missing transactions, and data inconsistency
- Manage HA/DR solutions such as Failover, warm standby, and logical standby databases
- Apply security best practices including user management, roles, permissions, auditing, and password policies
- Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and support teams during deployments, outages, and performance incidents
- Prepare and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and SOPs
- Participate in 24x7 support, on-call rotations, and incident/problem management
- Support database migrations, upgrades, and consolidation initiatives
- Ensure compliance with internal standards, SLAs, and regulatory requirements
Salary Range:
