ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a hands-on Data Center Technician to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for the physical build-out, maintenance, and repair of server infrastructure in our data center environment. You will work directly with hardware every day — preparing new systems, resolving hardware issues, racking and cabling equipment, and fulfilling hardware change requests through our ticketing system. This is a fully on-site, night shift position. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Server preparation — Unbox, inventory, configure, and deploy new servers including installing or swapping RAM, storage drives, NICs, and other components to match build specifications.
• Troubleshooting & repair — Diagnose and resolve hardware failures including failed drives, memory errors, power supply issues, and motherboard faults using diagnostic tools and system logs.
• Rack and stack — Mount servers, switches, and other equipment into racks following proper U-space and weight distribution standards; dress and label all cabling neatly.
• Cabling — Run, terminate, and manage power and network cables (Cat6, fiber, etc.) in accordance with data center standards. Maintain clean and organized cable management at all times.
• Ticket-based hardware changes — Work through a queue of tickets requesting hardware upgrades, replacements, or configuration changes (e.

g., adding RAM, swapping a failed NVMe drive, replacing a

SATA SSD

). Document all work completed in the ticketing system.

• Inventory management — Track spare parts and consumables; flag low stock to the team lead.
• Physical lifting — Safely handle and install servers and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Candidates must understand how a PC-based server works at the component level.

• NVMe SSD (M.2 / U.2 / PCIe AIC) — PCIe-based protocol, significantly higher throughput (3,500-7,000+ MB/s on Gen 4), lower latency; used for performance-critical workloads.
• Difference between M.2 2280 and U.2 (2.5" NVMe) form factors and how they connect to a server motherboard or backplane.
• Understanding RAID levels (0, 1, 5, 10) and when a hardware RAID controller vs. software RAID is used.
• Hot-swap vs. cold-swap drive bays and safe drive removal procedures. Other Components

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment weighing up to 40 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and crouch for extended periods on the data center floor
• Ability to work in a loud, temperature-controlled environment (raised floors, overhead cable trays, cooling units)

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• 1+ year of hands-on experience working with PC or server hardware (professional, military, or lab/homelab experience considered)
• Demonstrated ability to identify and replace common server components (RAM, drives, PSUs, cables)
• Basic familiarity with Linux and/or Windows Server command-line tools for hardware diagnostics
• Comfortable reading technical documentation, server manuals, and wiring diagrams
• Ability to work methodically and follow documented procedures with attention to detail Preferred
• CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+, or equivalent certification
• Experience working in a commercial data center or colocation facility
• Familiarity with DCIM or ITSM ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Zendesk)
• Experience with structured cabling and cable management best practices
• Understanding of basic networking (IP addressing, VLANs, switch port configuration)

• Full-time, 40 hours per week — Night Shift
• On-site only — Downtown St. Louis, MO (no remote or hybrid)
• Shift hours: 12:00 AM
• 8:00 AM
• Weekend availability may be required
