• Lansing, MI1-Year Contract with Likely Extension MJB Recruiting is seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator for a long-term State of Michigan engagement supporting enterprise database operations, cloud integration, security, automation, performance tuning, and hybrid infrastructure management.

This is a highly technical DBA role supporting SQL Server environments across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud platforms.

IMPORTANT

• Hybrid role
• onsite in Lansing, MI required from Day 1
• NO remote-only option
• Candidates MUST currently reside within 1-1.5 hours of Lansing, MI
• Virtual MS Teams interviews
• Occasional after-hours patching support may be required

AM EST Key Responsibilities:

• Administer and support SQL Server database environments across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructure
• Implement backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies
• Configure and manage SQL Server installations across on-prem and cloud-hosted environments
• Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, statistics management, and troubleshooting
• Implement database security controls including encryption, TDE, Row-Level Security, and data masking
• Automate administration tasks using PowerShell, CLI tools, and scripting
• Monitor and maintain database health, integrity, availability, and performance
• Support hybrid connectivity between on-prem SQL Server and cloud platforms
• Work with development and infrastructure teams on deployments, migrations, and production support

Required Skills:

• 3-5 years SQL Server Database Administration experience
• Backup & recovery implementation experience across hybrid/cloud environments
• Query tuning, T-SQL optimization, and troubleshooting experience
• SQL Server installation and configuration experience
• Database security and compliance experience
• PowerShell or CLI automation experience
• Database maintenance automation experience
• Hybrid infrastructure/database connectivity experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills:

• Azure SQL Database or

AWS RDS SQL

Server experience

• Cloud migration experience
• Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions CI/CD exposure
• Flyway or Redgate deployment automation
• Python scripting experience
