May 25, 2026 Job Description The Database Administrator provides administrative and technical leadership for enterprise database environments (on-premises and cloud-based), ensuring reliable data services that support business operations, reporting, and analytics. This role partners with application, infrastructure, and operations teams to translate business needs into effective data solutions and contributes to the evolution of database standards and best practices. Responsibilities Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise database environments to ensure data quality, security, integrity, availability, and performance across multiple platforms and environments (production, development, test, build, and staging). Design, implement, and manage logical and physical database architectures, including complex data models, entity relationship diagrams, aggregation tables, and standards that support business operations, reporting, and analytics. Work with Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, both on-prem and in Avista's AWS tenant. This includes fully-hosted AWS RDS versions of these databases. Monitor database performance, capacity, and space usage; plan for future growth and tuning needs; and execute backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and capacity planning strategies to ensure system reliability and stability. Install, test, upgrade, and patch database software, tools, and utilities; research and evaluate emerging technologies and techniques to improve performance and align with industry best practices. Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve database and information flow issues of varying complexity; lead resolution of high‑impact incidents and ensure minimal disruption to business operations. Develop, implement, and enforce database policies, standards, procedures, and security controls; ensure compliance with architectural conventions and data governance requirements. Act as a technical consultant and subject matter expert, partnering with application, infrastructure, and operations teams to translate business needs into effective data solutions and support major system implementations. Lead or support database administration projects and initiatives; provide technical leadership, guidance, and knowledge sharing, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify emerging needs and strategic opportunities. Requirements BA/BS in Information Systems, Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics or a related field Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner Business computer skills such as MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Visio) Analytical/problem resolution and quantitative analysis skills Preference for skills in Oracle and PostgreSQL databasesDatabase Administrator:

$100,378 to $131,496Database Administrator, Senior:
+6 years of related experience with 3 years of experience in database administration In-depth knowledge and applicable experience with database technology, data modeling concepts, tools and techniques including front end and query tools, operating systems, backup and recovery strategies and performance tuning techniques Ability to handle multiple moderate to complex assignments and prioritize; develop creative and innovative solutions Working knowledge of statistical analysisHiring Range:
$114,207 to $150,183Database Administrator, Expert:
+8 years of related experience with 5 years of experience in database administration including 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity Thorough knowledge and applicable experience with database technology, data modeling concepts, tools and techniques including front end and query tools, operating systems, backup and recovery strategies and performance tuning techniques Ability to handle multiple moderate to highly complex assignments and prioritize; develop creative and innovative solutions to complex problems Ability to work effectively with staff members and management and effectively collaborate with external regulatory, governmental, business, or customer groups. Working knowledge of statistical analysis and the ability to interpret complex data and draw conclusionsHiring Range:
$130,190 to $171,852 Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the manager.
