Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator/Analyst to join our IT team and take ownership of the performance, reliability, security, and ongoing development of our Microsoft SQL Server database environment. This is a hands-on senior-level position for someone who understands that databases are the backbone of the business. The ideal candidate will be highly experienced with SQL Server administration, database performance tuning, backups and recovery, security, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery. The successful candidate will work closely with developers, IT leadership, and business teams to ensure our databases remain secure, available, efficient, and scalable. Key Responsibilities SQL Server Administration Administer, maintain, and monitor Microsoft SQL Server databases in production and development environments. Perform database installations, upgrades, migrations, configuration, and maintenance. Manage database security, users, roles, permissions, and access controls. Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and performance. Proactively identify and resolve database issues before they impact business operations. Performance & Optimization Analyze and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, indexes, and execution plans. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks. Develop and maintain indexing strategies. Monitor server and database performance and recommend improvements. Work with developers to improve database design and application performance. Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive backup and recovery strategies. Regularly test database restores and disaster recovery procedures. Maintain appropriate recovery point and recovery time objectives. Develop and maintain documentation for database recovery and business continuity. Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing. High Availability & Security Maintain and support SQL Server high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions. Monitor replication, Always On Availability Groups, or other applicable technologies. Implement database security best practices. Protect sensitive business data and ensure appropriate access controls. Assist with security audits and compliance requirements. Development & Collaboration Write and troubleshoot advanced T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and scripts. Partner with software developers on database architecture and application development. Review database changes and assist with deployment processes. Support data integrations and interfaces between systems. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other IT team members. Collaborate with leadership to evaluate new technologies and improve the company's database environment. Required Qualifications 7 + years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases. Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture and database administration. Advanced T-SQL skills. Strong experience with query and performance tuning. Extensive experience with backup, restore, and disaster recovery. Strong understanding of database security and permissions. Experience with database monitoring and troubleshooting. Experience with SQL Server upgrades and migrations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to independently troubleshoot complex production issues. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups. Experience with replication. Experience with SSIS, SSRS, or other Microsoft data technologies. Experience with database monitoring tools. Experience supporting high-volume transactional databases. Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
