Contract Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Teradata Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, support, and optimize Teradata data warehouse environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for database installation, configuration, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, backup/recovery, and ensuring high availability of mission-critical systems in a production environment. Key Responsibilities Database Administration & Operations Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Teradata Database and related utilities. Administer large-scale Teradata data warehouse environments (DEV / QA / UAT / PROD). Monitor database health, system performance, and resource utilization. Perform database start-up, shutdown, and routine maintenance activities. Manage user access, roles, profiles, and security privileges. Performance Tuning & Optimization Analyze and tune SQL queries for optimal performance. Monitor workload management using TASM / Viewpoint . Identify bottlenecks related to CPU, memory, AMP usage, skew, and spool space. Work closely with developers and data analysts to optimize ETL and reporting workloads. Backup, Recovery & High Availability Design and manage backup and recovery strategies using ARCMAIN , BAR, or enterprise backup tools. Perform disaster recovery (DR) planning, testing, and execution. Ensure data integrity and availability during failures or outages. Support system failover and restore operations. Capacity Planning & Space Management Manage database space allocation, permanent/temporary/spool space. Perform capacity planning and forecasting for future growth. Monitor and resolve space-related issues, skew, and data distribution problems. Security & Compliance Implement database security policies in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. Conduct periodic access reviews and audit support. Ensure data protection, encryption, and compliance with GxP, SOX, HIPAA, or other applicable standards (if required). Production Support & Incident Management Provide 24x7 production support (on-call as needed). Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, performance incidents, and outages. Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and post-incident reviews. Work with infrastructure, application, and ETL teams to resolve cross-functional issues. Automation & Documentation Develop and maintain scripts for monitoring, automation, and housekeeping. Maintain SOPs, runbooks, and operational documentation. Support change management and release activities. Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills 6+ years of hands-on experience as a Teradata DBA . Strong expertise in Teradata architecture , AMPs, nodes, parsing engine, BYNET.
Proficiency with Teradata utilities:
BTEQ FastLoad / MultiLoad / TPump ARCMAIN Teradata Viewpoint Strong SQL and query performance tuning skills. Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems. Knowledge of workload management (TASM), space management, and skew resolution. Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
Preferred / Nice
-to-Have Skills Experience with Teradata upgrades and migrations . Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Teradata Vantage. Knowledge of ETL tools (Informatica, Ab Initio, DataStage). Scripting skills (Shell, Python). Experience supporting large enterprise data warehouse environments. Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle high-pressure production issues. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
