About the role Riot is seeking a Critical Operations Engineer to join our team in Rockdale, Texas. In this hands-on role, you will help ensure the reliability, efficiency, and uptime of our mission-critical infrastructure by operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical systems. From HVAC and chilled water systems to UPS equipment, generators, and critical power distribution, you will play a key role in supporting a fast-paced, mission-critical environment. This position may require flexibility to work day, swing, or night shifts based on operational needs. What you'll do Perform hands-on operations and maintenance across electrical or mechanical systems to ensure uptime, efficiency, and safety.
Apply mechanical and electrical theory to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot facility systems, demonstrating working knowledge of integrated electrical, mechanical, and controls environments.
Complete work orders accurately and on time within the site's asset management system.
Utilize control room systems to monitor and diagnose system alerts, respond to events, and inspect equipment to identify risks, faults, and inefficiencies.
Respond independently to facility events using established procedures and escalate when necessary.
Troubleshoot, evaluate, and recommend system improvements or upgrades to enhance operational efficiency and maintenance programs.
Author procedures and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities and contribute to maintenance planning.
Support vendor and contractor management by coordinating onsite maintenance activities, including scheduling, oversight, and ensuring adherence to site standards and procedures. What you'll bring Tech I 0-2+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, or technical maintenance field (internship/trade school acceptable)
Basic understanding of safety practices and willingness to learn technical systems and processes
Exposure to mechanical, electrical, or life safety systems
Familiarity with maintenance environments or technical tools
Interest in pursuing technical certifications or trade development Tech II 3-6+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or a related technical field
Strong understanding of mechanical or electrical theory and its practical application
Experience performing maintenance and troubleshooting on technical systems
Experience in critical environments (data centers, healthcare, manufacturing, power, etc.)
Knowledge of asset management or maintenance tracking systems
Experience interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
Knowledge of integrated building systems and controls
Trade certification or state licensure (Electrical or HVAC) Tech III 6+ years of experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, controls, or related technical field
Strong expertise in advanced troubleshooting, system integration, and independent decision-making
Comprehensive understanding of electrical, mechanical, and control systems integration
Experience managing vendors, projects, and maintenance programs, including oversight of project execution and vendor coordination.
Experience leveraging AI tools for operational efficiency and predictive maintenance
Demonstrated application of responsible AI practices and continuous AI skill development
Professional affiliations (7x24 Exchange, IFMA, etc.)
Advanced certifications or licensures in electrical, mechanical, or controls disciplines Physical requirements and work environment Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
Ability to lift and move equipment as needed (25lbs)
Ability to work onsite in a data center environment (heat, noise, etc.)
Exposure to high noise levels and varying temperatures
