Job#: 3050105 Apex Systems is looking for a Sr. Data Center Technician resource to join our team to support one of our financial clients in Ashburn, VA.   • Ability to install and validate servers, network infrastructure, and supporting hardware in a mission critical datacenter with while ensuring proper Rack/Cable/Switch/Power/Cooling metrics are maintained
  • Updating of Data Center assets within the Data Center Infrastructure (DCIM) platform
  • Ability to assist with installation, support, troubleshooting, and repair of data center equipment.
  • Experience with telecom equipment installation and troubleshooting. Ability to troubleshoot, coordinate hardware installations and/or repairs. Engage vendors for hardware problems covered under existing support contracts
  • Communicate with internal and external system users to address concerns and make sure that technical issues are dealt with appropriately.
  • Manage ticket queues and address escalated issues. Experience with Remedy or similar ticketing system. Coordinate with vendors to ensure efficient incident resolution.
  • Identify and work critical system related issues to meet the objectives of the corporation.
  • Participate in reporting efforts related to budget for the various supporting business units.
  • Contribute to the achievement of area objectives.
  • Understanding of cable plant designs and fundamental of various category (CAT) cabling standards and fiber cabling from a patching needs and requirement. Understanding of structured cabling systems.

Responsibilities:

Colo Contract Worker (CW) Duties and Expectations

  • We recommend, if at all possible, the contract worker (CW) reside within 30-45 minutes radius of the Colo site.
  • The contractor's responsibility will be to support normal day to day operation which will include installing devices, removing devices, cabling, labeling, escorting vendor/technicians, responding to emergency requests, keeping data center clean, addressing incident tickets, changes and any other miscellaneous requests related with the site.
  • The CW will report and take work direction directly from the Hardware Support Product Owner in order to fulfill all the physical work requirements of the Colo site. Depending on work demand, help will be provided as necessary however, the expectation is that normal routine work should be fulfilled by the CW in the projected time.
  • CW is the only dedicated person at the site, he is expected to be physically onsite everyday Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7AM to 3:30 PM. This may be subject to change at a later date, since FRB runs production environments on EST schedule, those hours may be shifted to an earlier start time. He will also be required to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis when necessary.
  • Any unexpected time off or emergency situations should be communicated to and approved by, the Product Owner ASAP. The PO will work with the CW in order to accommodate the requests as best as possible. This should be an occasional situation, repeated habitual requests may bring on critical actions by FRB.
  • Scheduled vacation time should be discussed with and approved by the Product Owner at least 30 days in advance.
  • CW will be responsible to respond to all Colo related phone calls and inquiries. Critical work may be impacted if he does not respond to calls or if he does not call back in an expedient manner. In the case of missed responses we will provide some initial warnings however, if he continues to miss responses, we may need to take critical action.
  • The work will occasionally include heavy lifting shifting, moving devices, running cables above and below the cabinets will be required. This will
  • installing cables in the appropriate trays above the racks working on ladders.
  • The CW will be paid for a 40 hour workweek, there will be no budget for overtime, any additional hours worked will be compensated by time off which will be discussed with and approved by the Product Owner.

There will be requirements for the CW to support work outside the normal workday hours. When necessary, the CW will be expected to be onsite during off hours and weekends in order to support the activities requested by our customers.

  • CW should be mindful and responsible for the security of the FRB Colo cage, he should be aware of and adhere to all the FRB Colo access policies for employees and vendors.
  • CW should be familiar and work with FRB applications like SN, ITAM, DCIM and others.
  • CW will be responsible for expediently communicating the progress of his work to the Product Owner and members of the Hardware Team.
