Job Description
Summary In accordance with the Visit Yuma mission, core values and vision, this position, under the direction of the Office Manager, serves as Visitor Information Center Specialist. The Visitor Information Center Specialist performs a variety of duties as needed to effectively assist in the smooth operations of the VIC and gift shop. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Quickly ascertain the needs of each visitor and provide services to meet those needs while exceeding expectations for customer service. 2. Provide high quality information, directions and materials to attractions, accommodations, and facilities within the greater Yuma area. 3. Maintain a well-informed working knowledge of Yuma area attractions and available services and act as a liaison between these entities and visitors. 4. Understand our relationship to our members and promote those businesses when appropriate. 5. Answer phones, email and U.S. postal mail and respond to requests for information in a timely manner. 6. Accurately operate the Point of Sale (POS) or similar systems for merchandise, tickets or any other item being sold within VIC in accordance with policy and procedures set forth. 7. Stock brochures, rack cards or any other promotional information as necessary. Assist in selling and stocking merchandise when necessary. 8. Perform janitorial duties as necessary to keep the VIC organized, clean and orderly. 9. Direct requests/unresolved issues to appropriate internal staff member; maintain open line of communication with both internal and external partners. 10. Attend and participate in VY meetings, events and functions when required. 11. All other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. At least two years of experience working with the public and/or providing customer service. 2. Prior cash handling and/or retail experience. 3. Requires a thorough knowledge of Yuma and surrounding areas. 4. Work requires proper spoken and written English, bilingual Spanish/English desirable. 5. High school diploma, general education degree or equivalent. 6. Work requires verbal communication skills to relay understanding Visit Yuma policies, procedures and goals. 7. Work requires the possession of computer skills including using network and PC technologies for POS transactions, word processing, Internet, online systems, and e-mail, within a Windows environment. 8. Work requires the ability to work with the public, which necessitates knowledge of social protocol and projection of professionalism/professional appearance. 9. Desire and willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays. 10. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds occasionally. 11. Work requires the ability to hear to communicate with the public and respond to inquiries, requests and emergencies. Work requires the ability to hear to place and receive telephone calls and to demonstrate proper telephone techniques and etiquette. 12. Work requires prioritization, organization, and coordination. Thoroughness and detail-oriented is required, as are aptitude and willingness to learn new processes and accept change. Problem-solving and analytical skills are required. Desired Skills and Abilities 1. Experience in the travel and tourism industry is desired. 2. Retail sales experience is desired.
