Job Description

Database Engineer-559 Staff Augmentation Newport Beach , California Contract The CSI Companies is supporting a client in the West Los Angeles, CA area with identifying a Database Engineer to join a product engineering team. This person will bring deep expertise in SQL Server and Azure cloud technologies and will help build scalable, secure, high-performance database solutions in a fast-paced, AI-enhanced SDLC environment. What You'll Do Design, implement, and optimize SQL Server databases for high availability, scalability, and performance. Lead/support Azure migration efforts for legacy databases and data services. Build and maintain cloud-native data solutions using Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Cosmos DB, and related Azure services. Partner with application engineers to ensure seamless integration between backend data systems and product features. Monitor and troubleshoot database performance, security, and compliance issues. Work in an AI-driven SDLC by leveraging AI copilots/tools to: translate requirements into structured data models/specs, iterate on database architecture and performance strategies, write/refactor/validate SQL in real-time, support automated validation and more resilient/self-healing data pipelines. Required Qualifications 6+ years of database engineering experience with strong SQL Server depth. Strong understanding of database design, indexing, query optimization, and stored procedures. Strong experience with database modeling (3rd Normal Form) and data architecture principles. 3-5 years of NoSQL experience (e.g., Cosmos DB). Knowledge of Azure SQL Database Hyperscale and SQL internals. Hands-on experience reviewing stored procedure performance, reading execution plans, and implementing optimizations. Proven ability designing/writing high-performance SQL queries and table designs. Familiarity with AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar). Nice to have: experience with distributed databases, ELT tools, and/or stream processing tools.
