Job Description
We are hiring a Big Data Architect to join our central London team and lead the design and execution of a next-generation, cloud-native enterprise data ecosystem. In this role, you will serve as the primary technical authority, transforming complex legacy data estates into high-performance architectures (Data Lakehouse/Data Mesh) that power global broking operations, dynamic risk management, and advanced AI capabilities. Essential functions Serve as the technical authority for the data platform, bridging the gap between high-level architectural strategy and hands-on data engineering delivery. Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models that accurately reflect complex insurance workflows, spanning risk placement, policy administration, claims management, and reinsurance. Architect highly available, robust data ingestion and integration pipelines (batch, streaming, and API-based) connecting diverse market systems. Dictate the technical direction and build out data platforms using modern cloud-native technologies, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. Partner directly with business subject matter experts, software engineers, and analytics teams to translate broking requirements into technical solutions that deliver immediate value. Establish and enforce strict data governance, source-to-target mapping, data quality, and security standards (including GDPR compliance). Qualifications 7+ years of proven experience functioning as a Data Architect, Lead Data Engineer, or in a similar senior technical role within a complex, global enterprise environment. Deep, practical understanding of the Insurance, Reinsurance or Broking sectors Strong architectural knowledge and hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS) and modern data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse, etc.). Advanced proficiency in data engineering programming languages (SQL, Python, or Scala).
